The List of Lamar University alumni includes notable former students of Lamar University. The term "Lamar Cardinal," which comes from Lamar's mascot "Big Red," a cardinal, refers to current and former students of Lamar University. The class year of each former student indicates the year four years after their enrollment year, and does not necessarily represent graduation year. Mike Sarbaugh
James Michael Sarbaugh (born April 25, 1967) is a baseball coach for the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is a former minor league baseball player and minor league manager for the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A farm team of the Guardians. He has served as the third base/infielders coach for the Indians since 2013. Career Playing career Sarbaugh attended Lamar University, where he was an all conference shortstop, graduating with a degree in kinesiology. Sarbaugh played six seasons in the minors, beginning with the Helena Brewers in 1989, then was in the Cleveland Indians' system from 1990 to 1994, where he won a Carolina League championship as a member of the 1991 Kinston Indians. Alvin Brooks
Alvin Joseph Brooks Jr. (born August 6, 1959) is a basketball coach and head coach of the Lamar University's men's basketball team. Prior to Lamar, he most recently served as associate head coach of the Houston Cougars. Brooks has also served as Director of Basketball Operations for the Kentucky Wildcats. He coached the Houston Cougars from 1993 to 1998. He also served as an assistant coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball team and was at Texas A&M through the '06–'07 season. Playing career Brooks was an award-winning player in college and high school. As a senior at Houston's Wheatley High School, he averaged 25.9 points and 9.0 assists per game on the way to earning All-City honors. Netball
Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth nations. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball. However, the sport is the result of Clara Baer's misinterpretation of its rules. Jamaica

Nicole Aiken-Pinnock
Nicole Alicia Aiken-Pinnock (née Aiken; born 11 December 1985) is a Jamaican netball player. Pinnock started playing international representative netball as early as 2004, although she made her senior debut in the Jamaica national team, the Sunshine Girls, at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. In 2007, Pinnock received a four-year scholarship to play basketball with Lamar University in Texas, where she played center for the Cardinals. However, in 2008 it was reported that Pinnock had given up the scholarship and returned to her first college, G.C. Foster. Pinnock currently plays netball for the Sunshine Girls at international level, and for Sirens (netball) in the Netball Superleague. The Kansas City Royals are an American professional baseball team based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Royals compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central division. Jonathan Michael Dziedzic (; born February 4, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. Career Dziedzic attended Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He played college baseball for the Lamar Cardinals. The Boston Red Sox selected Dziedzic in the 37th round, with the 1,141st overall selection, of the 2012 MLB draft. He did not sign, returning to Lamar University. After the 2012 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League. The Kansas City Royals selected Dziedzic in the 13th round, with the 381st overall selection, of the 2013 MLB draft. 2017 World Baseball Classic
The 2017 World Baseball Classic (WBC) was an international professional baseball competition, composed of 16 competing nations, held from March 6 to March 22, 2017. It was the fourth iteration of the World Baseball Classic. The first-round hosts were Seoul, Tokyo, Miami, and Zapopan. The second-round hosts were Tokyo and San Diego, and the championship round was played in Los Angeles. Twelve of the 16 competing nations qualified based on their performance during the first round of the 2013 tournament; the remaining four nations were the winners of four qualification tournaments that took place in February, March, and September 2016. The Netherlands national baseball team is the national baseball team of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, representing the country in international men's baseball. They are currently ranked as the best team in the WBSC Europe, and the team is also ranked ninth in the WBSC World Rankings. Houston Astros
The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston, Texas. The Astros compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division, having moved to the division in 2013 after spending their first 51 seasons in the National League (NL).
