Egypt–Israel relations are foreign relations between Egypt and Israel. The state of war between both countries which dated back to the 1948 Arab–Israeli War culminated in the Yom Kippur War in 1973, and was followed by the 1979 Egypt–Israel peace treaty a year after the Camp David Accords, mediated by U.S. president Jimmy Carter. Full diplomatic relations were established on January 26, 1980, and the formal exchange of ambassadors took place one month later, on February 26, 1980, with Eliyahu Ben-Elissar serving as the first Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, and Saad Mortada as the first Egyptian Ambassador to Israel. Shalom Cohen (, born 1955) is an Israeli diplomat who served as ambassador to Egypt, a post he held from 2005 to 2010, and is now the ambassador to the South Pacific, in New Zealand. David Govrin
David Govrin (born 23 August 1963) is an Israeli diplomat and the first Israeli Ambassador in Morocco. Career Govrin has served as an Israeli diplomat since 1989. He served as the First Secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Egypt (1994–1997) and as a Political Counselor in the Permanent Mission of Israel to the UN. In addition, he has served in a variety of positions in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including that of Head of the Jordanian Department and Head of department in the Ministry's Planning Bureau. Itzhak Levanon (born November 5, 1944) is an Israeli diplomat. He was Israel's ambassador to Egypt from 2009 to 2011. Biography Levanon was born in Beirut to Yosef and Shulamit Kishik-Cohen.
