List Of Iraqi Football Champions
The Iraqi football champions are the winners of the highest league in Iraqi football. Following the establishment of the Iraq Football Association (IFA) in 1948, a regional league called the Iraq Central FA Premier League was held for teams from Baghdad and its neighbouring cities, alongside other regional leagues including the Basra, Kirkuk and Mosul leagues. These regional league championships lasted until 1973, when the IFA established the first nationwide football league in Iraq by the name of Iraqi National First Division, which featured a mixture of clubs and institute teams. After one season, a new clubs-only league competition was established, with many of the institute teams merging together or being replaced by sports clubs. The first season saw Al-Tayaran (now known as Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya) achieving the league title. Iraqi National First Division
The 1973–74 Iraqi National First Division was a football tournament organised by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) in the 1973–74 season, which was formed as the top-tier national league in Iraq to replace the Iraq Central FA League and the Basra, Kirkuk and Mosul leagues. The tournament began on 11 October 1973. Matches that ended in a draw were settled via penalty shootout (with no extra time), with the winner of the shootout earning one point. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya won the league title with a total of 23 points, and they also won the regional Iraq FA Baghdad Cup knockout tournament in the same season, led by coach Abdelilah Mohammed Hassan. AFC Cup
The AFC Cup is an annual continental club football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Under its current rules, the competition is played primarily between clubs from nations that did not receive direct qualifying slots in the top-tier AFC Champions League, based on the AFC Club Competitions Ranking. Al-Kuwait SC and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya are the most successful clubs in the competition's history, having won three titles each. Clubs from Kuwait have won four titles, making them the most successful nation in the competition. Ever since the inauguration of the competition in 2004, the finalists of each edition have been dominated by clubs from West Asia except for 2011 and 2015 when Uzbekistani team FC Nasaf from Central Asia and Malaysian team Johor Darul Ta'zim from Southeast Asia became champions that respective year. 1978–79 Iraqi National League
The 1978–79 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 5th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Al-Zawraa won their third league title in four seasons, doing so without losing a game, and also won the 1978–79 Iraq FA Cup to secure the double for the second time. Jamil Hanoon
Jamil Hanoon ( ar, جميل حنّون , born 1 July 1942) is a coach and former international Iraqi football player, he also played for Al-Minaa. Jamil is the older brother of international player and coach Jalil Hanoon. International career Jamil Hanoon was called by Croatian coach Ljubomir Kokeza to play in the 1969 Friendship Cup in Iran. On March 7, 1969, he played his debut with Iraq against Iran in a fully international match that ended 2–1 for Iran. Managerial career In 1977 Hanoon started training with his club Al-Minaa, which he retired from, and in the Iraqi Premier League in the 1977-1978 season after former coach Faleh Hassan Wasfi failed to win the first two games and resigned. Al-Sinaa Sport club ( ar, نادي الصناعة الرياضي, lit=''Industry SC'') is a football club based in Thawra District, East Districts of the Tigris River, Baghdad, that plays in Iraqi Premier League. 1976–77 Iraqi National League
The 1976–77 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 3rd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Due to scheduling difficulties, the season had to be cut short during round 18 of 22, with several postponed games from previous rounds. The Iraq Football Association decided to annul the results from the second half of the season, using the league table at the halfway stage of the campaign (when each team had played each other once) as the final standings, and crowned Al-Zawraa as the champions for their second consecutive league title. Al-Zawraa lost one of their four games from the second half of the season 3–2 against Al-Baladiyat, and Al-Jamiea lost one of their games in the second half of the season 3–2 against Al-Zawraa, but because the second half of the season was annulled, Al-Zawraa and Al-Jamiea both finished the season without a single loss. 1975–76 Iraqi National League
The 1975–76 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 2nd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Newly-promoted club Al-Zawraa, founded in 1969, won the league title and also won the Iraq FA Cup to complete the first national double in Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa's squad included many of the players that played for Al-Naqil in the 1974–75 season, a club that folded due to financial difficulties after finishing as league runners-up that campaign. Al-Muwasalat Sports Club ( ar, نادي المواصلات الرياضي) was a sports club based in Baghdad, Iraq. History In Premier League On 18 August 1974, the Iraq Football Association decided to form the Iraqi National Clubs Division as the first nationwide league of clubs in the country. Al-Naqil SC
Al-Naqil Sports Club ( ar, نادي النقل الرياضي, meaning ''Transport Sports Club''), was an Iraqi sports club based in Baghdad that was founded in 1937 under the name Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed ( ar, السكك الحديد, meaning ''Railways''). They were renamed Al-Naqil in 1974, competing in the first season of the Iraqi Premier League (the top tier of Iraqi club football) and finishing as runners-up. The club was dissolved in 1975 as they had no administration or financial backing. Their football players left to join newly-promoted club Al-Zawraa, who went on to become one of Iraqi football's most successful clubs. The 1974–75 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the first edition of the competition since the Iraq Football Association (IFA) founded it as the country's first nationwide league of clubs, replacing the Iraqi National First Division that had been established one year prior for clubs and institutions. Abdelilah Mohammed Hassan
Abdellilah Mohammed Hassan (1934 – 30 March 2022) was an Iraq football coach, who managed the Iraq national team on two occasions in 1968 and 1972. Career Born in the northern city of Mosul in 1934, Abdellilah enrolled at the Sports Training College in Baghdad in 1955 and later traveled to England, where he earned a widely recognised coaching certificate at Lilleshall with the likes of Adil Basher, Shawqi Aboud and Maan Al-Badry. In England, he also spent time looking at coaching methods, techniques and tactics at English clubs Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur while in 1974, he traveled to Germany where he spent time with European giants Bayern Munich. During his career, he coached Mosul, Al-Farqa Al-Thalatha and also the Iraq national team, Olympic and army teams.
