Division 3 is the fifth level in the league system of Swedish football and comprises 144 Swedish football teams. Division 3 had status as the official third level from 1928 to 1986, but was replaced by Division 2 in 1987. It then had status as the official fourth level until 2005, but was replaced once again as Division 1 was recreated in 2006. The competition There are 144 clubs in Division 3, divided in 12 groups of 12 teams each representing a geographical area. During the course of a season (starting in April and ending in October) each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 22 games. Kurt Kjellström (19 March 1921 – 10 December 1965) was a Swedish ice hockey, football and bandy player, best known for representing Hammarby IF in all three sports. In 2012, Kjellström was posthumously inducted into the Swedish Hockey Hall of Fame. Early life Kjellström was born in Stockholm and started to play ice hockey and football with local clubs Eriksdals IF and Helgalundsklubben as a youngster. Axel "Acke" Nilsson (12 November 1904 – 22 April 1978) was a Swedish football, ice hockey and bandy player, best known for representing Hammarby IF and AIK in all three sports. A full international between 1930 and 1937, he won eight caps for the Sweden national football team. He also competed for the Sweden national ice hockey team at the 1936 Winter Olympics. Mikael Patrik "Totte" Gerrbrand (born 27 April 1981) is a Swedish former professional footballer who played as a defender. Petter Furuseth (born 14 August 1978) is a Norwegian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder in the top-flight in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. He used to be known as Petter Furuseth Olsen. Furuseth represented Norway at youth international level. Bertil Bäckvall (22 February 1923 – 28 October 2012) was a Swedish footballer and manager. He mostly represented Hammarby IF and AIK, and won two caps for the Sweden national team. Playing career Hammarby IF Born and raised in Stockholm, Bäckvall started to play football with local club Sandsborgs IF as a youngster. In 1939, he made his debut for Hammarby IF in Allsvenskan, Sweden's first tier.
