High-definition Television
High-definition television (HD or HDTV) describes a television system which provides a substantially higher image resolution than the previous generation of technologies. The term has been used since 1936; in more recent times, it refers to the generation following standard-definition television (SDTV), often abbreviated to HDTV or HD-TV. It is the current de facto standard video format used in most broadcasts: terrestrial broadcast television, cable television, satellite television and Blu-ray Discs. CKRN-DT (branded on-air as Radio-Canada Télévision CKRN) was a privately owned Ici Radio-Canada Télé- affiliated television station licensed to Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada, which essentially functioned as a semi-satellite of Montreal Radio-Canada flagship station CBFT-DT due to not having alternative non-network sources of programming available. It broadcast a digital signal on VHF channel 9 (or virtual channel 4.1 via PSIP) from a transmitter near Chemin Powell (north of Route 101) in Rouyn-Noranda. The station is owned by the Bell Media subsidiary of BCE Inc. CFAP-DT's studios are located on the corner of Rue d'Youville and Rue Saint-Joachim (co-located with sister stations CHIK-FM and CITF-FM) in the Quebec City borough of La Cité-Limoilou, and its transmitter is located at Édifice Marie-Guyart, in downtown Quebec City. It is owned and operated by network parent Bell Media alongside CTV outlet CFCF-DT (channel 12). Both stations share studios at the Bell Media building (formerly the Montréal Téléport), at the intersection of Boulevard René-Lévesque Est and Avenue Papineau in downtown Montreal, while CFJP-DT's transmitter is located on Mount Royal. Noovo
Noovo is a Canadian French-language terrestrial television network owned by the Bell Media subsidiary of BCE Inc. The network has five owned-and-operated and three affiliated stations throughout Quebec, although it can also be seen over-the-air in some bordering markets in the provinces of Ontario and New Brunswick. It can also be received in some other parts of Canada on cable television or direct broadcast satellite. The network was launched in 1986 as Télévision Quatre-Saisons (TQS), and was known by that name until Remstar, which had bought the network in 2008, renamed it V on August 31, 2009. It was the namesake and flagship property of V Media Group (now known as Remstar Media Group), a separate company majority-owned by Remstar owner Maxime Rémillard (partially through Remstar). CIMT-DT, virtual and VHF digital channel 9, is a TVA- affiliated television station licensed to Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, Canada. Owned by Télé Inter-Rives, it is part of a twinstick with Noovo affiliate CFTF-DT (channel 29). Both stations share studios on Rue de la Chute and Rue Frontenac in Rivière-du-Loup, while CIMT-DT's transmitter is located near Chemin du Mont Bleu in Picard. History The station was launched on September 17, 1978. The station is part of a rare "triple-stick", owned by Télé Inter-Rives, which also owns CKRT and CFTF. CJPM-DT, virtual channel 6 ( UHF digital channel 46), is a TVA owned-and-operated television station licensed to Saguenay, Quebec, Canada. The station is owned by the Groupe TVA subsidiary of Quebecor Media. CJPM-DT's studios and transmitter are located on Rue du Mont Sainte Claire in the former city of Chicoutimi. CHEM-DT is the TVA owned-and-operated television station in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada. It broadcasts a high-definition digital signal on VHF channel 8 from a transmitter on Rue Principale in Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel.
