For an alphabetical list of Finnish films see :Finnish films The numbers in the Notes column refer to the numbering used by Suomen kansallisfilmografia. These numbers are given to all full-length films which have been shown in public theaters as a headlining or co-headlining film. Suomen kansallisfilmografia uses the minimum length of 37 minutes to qualify for a film to be listed, however the earliest films may be shorter than this (as 37 minutes was not even technically possible). Finland ( fi, Suomi ; sv, Finland ), officially the Republic of Finland (; ), is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It shares land borders with Sweden to the northwest, Norway to the north, and Russia to the east, with the Gulf of Bothnia to the west and the Gulf of Finland across Estonia to the south. Karl Emil Ståhlberg
Karl Emil Ståhlberg (30 November 1862 – 27 June 1919) was a Finnish photographer and engineer. He founded and managed his own studio Atelier Apollo in Helsinki. On 3 April 1904, K. E. Ståhlberg opened Finland's first film theater called ''Världen Runt – Maailman Ympäri''. He also became the country's first film producer, who initially specialized in creating short documentary films. In 1907, Ståhlberg started a screenplay contest which eventually led to the creation of the first Finnish fictional film, ''Salaviinanpolttajat''. Ståhlberg also produced the film and hired his friend, the painter Louis Sparre to direct it. K. E.
