Katja Novitskova
Katja Novitskova (born 1984 in Tallinn, Estonia) is an Estonian installation artist. She lives and works in Amsterdam and Berlin. Her work focuses on issues of technology, evolutionary processes, digital imagery and corporate aesthetics. Novitskova is interested in investigating how, "media actively redefines the world and culture, and everything" related to art, nature and commerce. Education Novitskova holds degrees in Semiotics and Cultural Studies as well as a specialization in Media Arts from the University of Tartu, Estonia. She also completed a Masters of Science in Digital Media, University of Lübeck, Germany in addition to studying at the Graphic Design department at the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam. Ilon Wikland
Maire-Ilon Wikland (née Pääbo; born February 5, 1930) is an Estonian-born Swedish artist and illustrator. Wikland was born in Tartu, Estonia and raised in Haapsalu, Lääne County on Estonia's Baltic coast. In 1944 she escaped with the family of a classmate from the second Soviet occupation of Estonia, to Sweden, where she arrived as a refugee. In 1953 Wikland applied for a job as illustrator at Rabén & Sjögren. She was met by Astrid Lindgren, who had just finished writing the book ''Mio, my Son'' and who could see immediately that Wikland was able to "draw fairytales". Wikland did a test-drawing for the book and after that her collaboration with Lindgren continued. Wikland has said that Lindgren's writing continually makes her see inner pictures. She also derives inspiration for her pictures from real life. In the same way that Lindgren wrote for "the child within her", Wikland often also draws for the child within her. Erna Viitol
Erna Viitol (née Erna Juhanson; 10 May 1920 – 11 November 2001) was an Estonian sculptor. Biography Viitol was born into a family of farmers in Ala, Lõve Parish (now in Tõrva Parish), Valga County. She traveled to Stockholm, Sweden to study. Upon her return to Estonia in 1943, she studied in Tallinn at the Tallinn School of Applied and Fine Arts.Järelehüüe Sirbis - Erna Viitol 10. V 1920 – 11. Agaate Veeber
Agaate Veeber (also known as Agathe Veeber, born Agaate Wilhelmine Kanto; 23 February 1901 – 8 April 1988) was an Estonian graphic artist and illustrator who began her career in the 1920s in her native country of Estonia and continued in the United States after immigrating in 1948. Early life and education Agaate Veeber was born Agaate Wilhelmine Kanto in Tallinn to Karel and Ann Kanto (''née'' Leesment). She had one sister, Auguste Henriette, born in 1899. She attended secondary school at the Tallinn City I Girls' Gymnasium and began her artistic studies at Ants Laikmaa's Studio School in Tallinn, initially studying painting. In the late 1920s, she spent two semesters at the Academy of Fine Arts, Nuremberg in Germany, studying applied arts before returning to Estonia and enrolling at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Tio Tepandi (real name Tiiu Tepandi; born 24 November 1947) is an Estonian artist. She was born in Lüganuse, Estonia. Her grandfather was a gardener of the local estate. The memories of her birthplace, its beauty and harmony have always accompanied and influenced the artist. Early life and education Tio Tepandi was born in Lüganuse, Ida-Viru County and studied in the Institute of Arts in the Chair of Architecture Design from 1966 to 1971. Ann Tenno
Ann Tenno (née Ann Epler; born 4 December 1952 in Tartu) is an Estonian photographer and photo artist. Lonely Planet states that "some of the most spectacular and sensitive photographs of Estonia have been taken by Ann Tenno and published in books which best capture the spirit of Estonian nature." She is noted in particular for her town landscapes, especially photographs of the Estonian capital of Tallinn, and the churches and manor houses of Estonia. Katrina Tang (born 17 May 1985) is an Estonian international children's fashion and portrait photographer, art director and videographer. Life and work Born in Tallinn, Estonia, Tang went to high school in Pärnu. Viive Sterpu
Viive Sterpu (née Sirkel, December 10, 1953 – December 5, 2012) was an Estonian artist married to fellow artist Eugen Sterpu. She lived and worked in Tallinn, Estonia. Biography Sterpu drew mostly with pastel colours on sandpaper. She also experimented with graphic art and glass works. Sterpu found her motifs mostly from everyday life. She loved animals and nature and portrayed them in her art. Sterpu signed her art with the name '"Viive"'. Before her marriage she used name "Sirkel" as a signature. Birgit Püve
Birgit Püve (born November 7, 1978) is an Estonian photographer. She lives and works in Tallinn. Life and work Birgit Püve started out as a writing journalist for the Estonian weekly newspaper ''Eesti Ekspress''. She quickly became a successful writer, winning several reputable awards. Yet, her love for photography led her to replace words with images. Besides her personal projects, she now works as a freelance photographer and photo editor.
