Essendon Football Club
The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale, Victoria, Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The club’s first recorded game took place on 7 June 1873 against a Carlton Second 20. From 1878 until 1896, the club played in the Victorian Football Association then joined seven other clubs in October 1896 to form the breakaway Victorian Football League (later changed to AFL in 1990). Headquartered at the Essendon Recreation Ground, known as Windy Hill, from 1922 to 2013, the club moved to The Hangar in near Tullamarine in late 2013 on land owned the Melbourne Airport. Dick Reynolds
Richard Sylvannus Reynolds (20 June 1915 – 2 September 2002) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Reynolds is one of four footballers to have won three Brownlow Medals, the others being Haydn Bunton Sr., Bob Skilton and Ian Stewart. Revered by Essendon supporters, he was often referred to simply as "King Richard". Ted Bryce
Edward George Bryce (21 December 1912 – 10 October 1996) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Bryce was used up forward with success later in his career, but started out as a wingman and also played as a rover. He was the son of former Collingwood and South Melbourne player Bob Bryce. His brother, George Bryce, also competed for South Melbourne. He missed the end of the 1936 VFL season and most of 1937, after he received an 18-week suspension for kicking Carltons Norm Cashin. In 1938, his first full season back, he became a VFL interstate representative for the first time. Bryce missed another five games through suspension in 1939. Thomas Partridge Reynolds (21 November 1917 – 7 November 2002), was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon Football Club, Essendon in the Australian Football League, VFL. Ted Freyer (20 May 1910 – 22 April 1984) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the VFL during the 1930s. Family The sixth of the seven children of Peter Henry Freyer (1869-1945), and Mary Freyer (1871-1928), née Suffolk, Edward Laurence Freyer was born at Port Melbourne, Victoria on 20 May 1910. He married Elsie Olivia Holmes (1911-2001) in 1930. His brother, Bill Freyer, played VFL football with South Melbourne and Footscray in the mid-1920s, and his son, Robert Alan Freyer (1937-2011), played for Port Melbourne in the VFA between 1958 and 1965. Leslie Albert "Len" Johnson (6 July 1908 – 24 January 1942) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He died in an accident while serving with the Second AIF during World War II. Jack Vosti
John Winfred Vosti (25 April 1903 – 10 September 1977) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon Football Club, Essendon and Western Bulldogs, Footscray in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Vosti started his VFL career in 1925 with Essendon. He played forward and topped Essendon's goalkicking in 1927 after kicking 35 goals. The following season saw him move to fullback, a position at which he excelled. He finished 2nd in Essendon's 1929 best and fairest award. From 1927 until 1930 he was a regular at full back for Victoria at Interstate matches in Australian rules football, interstate football.
