List Of Coronation Street Characters (1979)
This is a list of characters that first appeared in ''Coronation Street'' in 1979. Bert Tilsley Herbert Harrison "Bert" Tilsley (though referred to as “Albert Tilsley” in the episode of 21 September 1981) was played by Peter Dudley. He was the first husband of Ivy Brennan (Lynne Perrie) and the father of Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten). Prior to his debut in 1979, Ivy had referred to her husband as 'Jack' and mentioned that they were childless. During his final months on ''Coronation Street'' in 1983, Bert had been left partially disabled after an accident in Brian's garage involving a tyre compressor unit. This was devised because Peter Dudley had suffered a real-life stroke but wanted to continue to appear in the series. Bert's last appearance was in July 1983, and he died (offscreen) in January 1984 of a heart attack while in a psychiatric hospital, following a nervous breakdown. Coronation Street
''Coronation Street'' is an English soap opera created by Granada Television and shown on ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres around a cobbled, terraced street in Weatherfield, a fictional town based on inner-city Salford. Originally broadcast twice weekly, the series began airing six times a week in 2017. The programme was conceived by scriptwriter Tony Warren. Warren's initial proposal was rejected by the station's founder Sidney Bernstein, but he was persuaded by producer Harry Elton to produce the programme for 13 pilot episodes, and the show has since become a significant part of English culture. Christopher Quinten
Christopher Quinten (born Christopher Bell; 12 July 1957) is a British actor, best known for his role as Brian Tilsley on '' Coronation Street'', which he played from 1978 to 1989. Career Quinten started his career as a dancer in West End productions, including the Victoria Palace with Cilla Black and Jimmy Tarbuck. He turned to acting and had his first role in the 1978 film '' International Velvet'', starring Tatum O'Neal. This appearance led to small parts in television series including ''Quatermass'' and '' Hazell'', and was also noticed by the ''Coronation Street'' casting offices, who gave Ivy Tilsley, the oft-seen Baldwin's worker, a son. Quinten was then signed to the programme, for which he worked for over a decade. His pairing with Gail Potter (played by Helen Worth) proved very popular for the serial in the 1980s. Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), also known as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, is a group of blood cancers that includes all types of lymphomas except Hodgkin lymphomas. Symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes, fever, night sweats, weight loss, and tiredness. Other symptoms may include bone pain, chest pain, or itchiness. Some forms are slow-growing while others are fast-growing. Lymphomas are types of cancer that develop from lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. Risk factors include poor immune function, autoimmune diseases, ''Helicobacter pylori'' infection, hepatitis C, obesity, and Epstein–Barr virus infection. The World Health Organization classifies lymphomas into five major groups, including one for Hodgkin lymphoma. Within the four groups for NHL are over 60 specific types of lymphoma. Nigel Pivaro
Nigel Pivaro (born 11 December 1959) is an English actor and journalist. He is best known for playing Terry Duckworth, the son of Jack and Vera Duckworth in ''Coronation Street''. Career Pivaro was born in Manchester, England to an Italian father and English mother. After studying acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Pivaro made his acting debut in ''Short of Mutiny'' at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, Stratford, London in February 1983. In August 1983, Pivaro was cast in the British soap opera ''Coronation Street'' as Terry Duckworth, the wayward son of the characters Jack and Vera. Terry Duckworth
Terry Duckworth is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera '' Coronation Street'', played by Nigel Pivaro. He was introduced as the son of popular characters Jack and Vera Duckworth, making his on-screen debut on 1 August 1983. Terry has three sons: Paul Clayton, Tommy Duckworth, and Brad Armstrong. The character made regular appearances until leaving Weatherfield in 1987 and has made only brief visits in years following. In February 2012, it was announced Pivaro would be returning to ''Coronation Street'' and he made his return as Terry on 16 April 2012. Sylvia Ann Ibbetson (''née'' Butterfield; 8 November 1939 – 25 September 2017), known professionally as Elizabeth Dawn or Liz Dawn, was an English actress, best known for her role as Vera Duckworth in the long-running British soap opera ''Coronation Street''. Vera Duckworth (also Burton) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', portrayed by Liz Dawn. Bill Tarmey (born William Piddington; 4 April 1941 – 9 November 2012) was an English actor and singer, best known for playing Jack Duckworth in the soap opera '' Coronation Street''. First appearing in the role in November 1979, he played it continually from 1981 to 2010. Early life and education Tarmey was born in Ardwick, Manchester, Lancashire. Shortly after his birth, he moved with his family to live in Bradford, Manchester, where he was also educated.
