The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL; ) is the top-tier professional baseball league in Taiwan. The league was established in 1989 and played the first season in 1990. CPBL eventually absorbed the competing Taiwan Major League in 2003. As of the 2023 season, the CPBL consists of six organizations, all of which have teams in the main league and farm league. The CPBL consists of Major () and, since 2006, Minor () leagues, with the Minor league team rosters consist of developmental and injury-recovering players. Lin Yueh-ping (; born 28 January 1982 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese baseball manager and former pitcher for the Uni-President Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Lin is among the fastest Taiwanese pitchers of the CPBL. He consistently throws around 145 km/h (90 mph), and when needed can reach back for more and has been clocked as fast as 154 km/h (96 mph). He features a slider as his out pitch. At the end of 2006 season, he was diagnosed with a heart condition, and underwent surgery in May 2007. The Rakuten Monkeys (), formerly First Financial Holdings Agan (, abbreviated ), La New Bears () and then the Lamigo Monkeys (), are a professional baseball team in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in Taiwan. Owned and administered by the Kaohsiung-based shoe-producing La New Corporation and then the Japan-based electronic commerce and online retailing company Rakuten, the Monkeys qualified for the playoffs in 2006 for the first time in team history, and by finishing with the best record for the whole season, gained an automatic berth in the Taiwan Series. The team played their home games at Chengcing Lake Baseball Field in Kaohsiung County (now part of Kaohsiung City) from 2004 to 2010. Chen Je-cheng (; born 23 September 1975 in Taiwan) is a Taiwanese baseball player who also managed for Brother Elephants of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Lu Wen-sheng (; born November 30, 1962, in Kaohsiung County (now part of Kaohsiung City), Taiwan) is a retired Taiwanese professional baseball player and the current manager of Uni-President Lions. He has also represented Chinese Taipei on many occasions before entering his professional career, and is sometimes named the best second baseman of his time.
