Bugis
The Bugis people (pronounced ), also known as Buginese, are an ethnicity—the most numerous of the three major linguistic and ethnic groups of South Sulawesi (the others being Makassar and Toraja), in the south-western province of Sulawesi, third-largest island of Indonesia. The Bugis in 1605 converted to Islam from Animism. The main religion embraced by the Bugis is Islam, with a small minority adhering to Christianity or a pre-Islamic indigenous belief called ''Tolotang''. Despite the population numbering only around six million, the Bugis are influential in the politics in modern Indonesia, and historically influential on the Malay peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Lesser Sunda Islands and other parts of the archipelago where they have migrated, starting in the late seventeenth century. Sophan Sophiaan
Sophan Sophiaan (April 26, 1944 – May 17, 2008) was an Indonesian film actor and politician. He was a member of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). Sophiaan was born in the city of Makassar, South Sulawesi, on April 26, 1944. His last appearance was in the 2008 film, ''Love'', opposite his real life wife, Indonesian actress, Widyawati. Sophiaan was killed in a motorcycle accident in Sragen, Central Java, on May 17, 2008 at the age of 64. He was participating in a motorcycle parade called "The Route of the National Awakening" to commemorate the 100th anniversary of National Awakening Day when the accident occurred. The parade, which began in Jakarta on April 12, 2008, was to make stops across Java in the cities of Rengas Dengklok, Cirebon, Pekalongan, Semarang, Rembang, Tuban and Surabaya, before ending in Monas, Jakarta, on May 20, 2008. Sandhy Soendhoro, better known by his stage name Sandhy Sondoro, sometimes stylized as Sandhy SonDoro, (born 12 December 1973) is an Indonesian singer-songwriter. He is best known for winning the 2009 International Contest of Young Pop Singer '' New Wave'', in Jūrmala, Latvia. Ungu
Ungu ( 'Purple') is an Indonesian rock band formed in Jakarta in 1996 with Makki as the only remaining original member. The group comprises vocalist Pasha, guitarists Enda & Onci, bassist Makki, and drummer Rowman. Ungu are known for their hit singles, such as "Demi Waktu", "Tercipta Untukku", "Andai Ku Tahu" and "Kekasih Gelapku". Ungu gained mainstream popularity in Malaysia around 2006 with the release of their single "Demi Waktu". followed by their third album ''Melayang'' (2006). Dewa 19 (pronounced in Indonesian as ''Dewa Sembilan Belas'') is an Indonesian rock band from Surabaya, East Java. Along with God Bless and Slank, they are dubbed as one of the greatest rock bands in the history of Indonesian popular music. The band was formed in 1986. There have been a number of changes to the lineup and finally they were disbanded in 2011. Their last members lineup was: Ahmad Dhani (keyboard), Andra (guitar), Agung Yudha (drums), Yuke (bass guitar), and Once (vocals). Elfonda Mekel, SH, (born 21 May 1970), better known by his stage name Once Mekel (, pronounced ''Ohn-chè''), is an Indonesian singer and former lead vocalist of Dewa 19. Biography Once was born Elfonda Mekel in Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi, on 21 May 1970.
