Air India Football Club is an Indian professional association football club based in Mumbai. The club was formed in Mumbai in 1952 by Air India. Air India have never won the League championship, nor the Federation Cup. They were though the winners of the 1999-2000 National Football League Second Division. History Air India FC has been playing in the Premier Harwood League since 1980. The team though qualified for the National Football League in 1995. In 1996 the club finished 6th in the League and then 5th in 1997. After being relegated to the second division in 1998, Air India paved their way back into the first division the next year and played in the National Football League in 2000 as well. The years 2001 to 2004 saw Air India going through a tough phase as they were playing in the second division. They are sponsored by Air India, and have enjoyed some success in the MDFA Elite League. They have also competed in the I-League, then top tier of Indian football league system. Sandesh Gadkari
Sandesh Gadkari (born 16 March 1987) is an Indian football player who currently plays as a forward for Mumbai in the I-League. Career Air India During the summer of 2011, Sandesh signed with Air India FC. Salgaocar Gadkari has completed his widely speculated move to Goa-based Salgaocar SC when he signed on the dotted lines to ink a two-year deal with Karim Bencharifa's army. Manandeep Singh
Manandeep Singh (born 3 November 1992, in Hisar, Haryana) is an indian ex footballer, model and actor who played as a striker for Minerva Punjab in the I-League. Career Pailan Arrows and Air India Singh started his professional career in 2010 with Pailan Arrows (then known as Indian Arrows) of the I-League. While with Arrows Singh scored only one goal which came against Air India on 13 March 2011 in which Singh scored the equaliser for Arrows in a match that Arrows eventually won 5–2. Singh then left Pailan Arrows after one season and signed for Air India for the 2011–12 I-League season. Singh scored his first two goals for Air India on 1 November 2011 when he scored a brace against Salgaocar in the I-League in a match that Air India won 3–1. 2011 Indian Federation Cup
The 2011 Indian Federation Cup was the 33rd season of the knock-out competition. On 13 August 2011 the AIFF announced that 21 clubs had been accepted to the tournament. The tournament Qualifiers commence from 8 September to 13 September and Final Group Round quarterfinals start from 17 September. The winner of this prestigious tournament will book their place in 2012 AFC Cup. East Bengal qualifies for 2012 AFC Cup because Salgaocar S.C. already qualified via them being I-League champions. 2011–12 I-League
The 2011–12 I-League was the fifth season of the I-League. The season began in October 2011 and ended in May 2012. Salgaocar are the defending champions, having won their maiden title in the previous season. The current edition has a total of 14 teams contesting for the honors. These include the top twelve teams from the 2010–11 season along with the two promoted sides, Shillong Lajong and Sporting Clube de Goa, who had been the winner and the runner-up in the 2011 I-League 2nd Division respectively. The 32nd Federation Cup qualifiers commenced from 14 September. Eight teams battled it out for a place in the quarterfinal round and had been divided into two groups. 2010–11 I-League
The 2010–11 I-League was the fourth season of the I-League, which waa the highest football league competition in India during the time. It ran from 3 December 2010 to May 2011. Dempo are the defending champions. On 30 May 2011 Salgaocar SC won the title by beating JCT FC 2–0 in the final match of the season. Teams Sporting Clube de Goa and Shillong Lajong FC were relegated at the end of the 2009–10 season after finishing in the bottom two places of the table. They were replaced by 2010 Second Division champions ONGC FC and runners-up HAL SC. In other team changes, Mahindra United were disbanded at the end of the 2009–10 season to concentrate on youth football. East Bengal defeated Shillong Lajong on penalties to win the competition in the final for their sixth time and earned a place in the 2010 AFC Cup. 2009–10 I-League
This season marks the addition of four new teams, with Lajong SSC, Pune FC, Salgaocar Sports Club and Viva Kerala are confirmed to participate in the I-League. With the inception of these four clubs, many club transfers have been undergone within India, and around the world. The length of the regular season will be longer than in previous years, with 26 rounds rather than 22. The season kicked off on 1 October 2009 with Mahindra United hosting defending champions Churchill Brothers in Mumbai. Rule changes India became the latest member association to adopt AFC's 3+1 rule which will allow clubs to recruit one player of Asian origin in addition to their regular quota of three foreigners. 2008–09 I-League
The I-League 2008–2009 season began on 26 September 2008 and finished on 16 April 2009 with a break in December for the Federation Cup and Durand Cup. Most games this season were played on Saturday's and Sunday's to attract larger crowds. After a successful first season for the I League, the second season featured 12 teams from four cities – again this would be expanded in the 2009–10 season to 14 teams. The champion in the I-League qualified for the AFC Champions League 2010 qualifying playoffs in 2010, while the bottom two teams were relegated to I-League 2nd Division for the next season. The I-League 2007–08 kicked off on 24 November 2007 at the Fatorda Stadium, Margao, Goa. The first match of the season was played between the two Goan clubs Dempo and Salgaocar.
