The AMA Motocross Championship (commercially known as Lucas Oil Pro Motocross) is an American motorcycle racing series. The motocross race series was founded and sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in 1972. The series is the major outdoor motocross series in the United States and is sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing and managed by MX Sports Pro Racing. With respect to the MXGP holding the discipline's worldwide title, and the advent of the Supercross World Championship resulting in the AMA Supercross Championship losing its world title status, the two series will form the SuperMotocross World Championship from 2023. Chuck Sun
Chuck Sun (born September 10, 1956) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1976 to 1983. In 1980, Sun won the AMA 500cc motocross national championship. He is the only Asian American to have won a national championship in American professional motorcycle racing. Danny LaPorte
Danny LaPorte (born December 3, 1956) is an American former professional motocross racer. He was one of the top motocross racers in the 1970s and 1980s and, was the first American to win a 250cc motocross world championship. Biography Born in Los Angeles, California, LaPorte began riding in the early 1970s when the sport of motocross enjoyed a period of explosive growth. He began racing professionally when he turned 16 and by 1976 he was offered a job with the Suzuki factory racing team. In 1979, LaPorte won the AMA 500cc national championship for Suzuki. He was part of the victorious American Motocross des Nations team in 1981, marking the first time an American team had won the prestigious event. Broc Glover (born May 16, 1960) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1976 to 1988. Glover earned six AMA national championships, a record which stood for nearly 20 years until 2003, when Ricky Carmichael finally eclipsed the mark. Robert William Hannah (born September 26, 1956) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1975 to 1989, most notably as a member of the Yamaha factory racing team. He was one of the most successful motocross racers in AMA history, with 70 AMA National race victories and seven motocross National Championships. Kent Howerton (born July 11, 1954) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1973 to 1988. Howerton is notable for being a three-time motocross national champion. Motocross career Born in Wichita, Kansas, Howerton was raised in San Antonio, Texas, where he began racing motocross. Anthony Joseph DiStefano Jr. (born February 6, 1957) is an American former professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1973 to 1981. A three-time AMA 250cc motocross national champion, DiStefano was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999. Marty Smith (November 26, 1956 – April 27, 2020) was an American professional motocross racer. He competed in the AMA Motocross Championships from 1974 to 1981, most prominently as a member of the Honda factory racing team with whom he won three AMA National Motocross championships.
