List Of School Divisions In Saskatchewan
This is a list of school divisions in Saskatchewan. There are currently twenty-seven school divisions: eighteen public divisions, eight Roman Catholic Separate School Divisions, and one fransaskois school division. When Saskatchewan was created in 1905, there were over five thousand school districts in Saskatchewan operating one room school houses. In the 1940s, the provincial government instituted an amalgamation process resulting in larger school units, which greatly reduced the number of school divisions. In 2004, the government announced a further amalgamation process. Seventy-one school divisions were amalgamated into twelve new school divisions and two re-structured school divisions, while thirteen other school divisions were not affected. In Canada, a separate school is a type of school that has constitutional status in three provinces (Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan) and statutory status in the three territories (Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut). Education in Saskatchewan, Canada, teaches a curriculum of learning set out by the Government of Saskatchewan through the Ministry of Education. The curriculum sets out to develop skills, knowledge and understanding to improve the quality of life. On June 22, 1915, Hon. Sun West School Division
Located in west-central Saskatchewan, the Sun West School Division covers approximately 25,600 square kilometers. On its east side, the Division includes schools in Davidson and Kenaston, whose attendance areas include students on the east side of Highway 11. The Alberta border serves as the Division's limits on the west, with the South Saskatchewan River providing its most southerly border. The Division extends as far north as Landis and Biggar. South East Cornerstone Public School Division
The South East Cornerstone South Public School Division No. 209 provides public education to nearly 8,000 students in south east Saskatchewan. The School Division was created in April, 2005 as part of the Provincial Government's plan to restructure the way primary to secondary education was administered in the province. The first members of the Board of Education were elected on June 15, 2005. On January 1, 2006 it replaced the education administration of the former South Central #141, Sunrise #145, Weyburn #95, Weyburn Rural #62, Souris Moose Mountain #122, Moosomin #9 School Divisions and the Estevan Comprehensive School Board #127. Saskatoon Public Schools (SPS) or Saskatoon S.D. No. 13 is the largest school division in Saskatchewan serving approximately 24,000 students. Saskatoon Public Schools operates 49 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools and 3 associate or affiliate schools in Saskatoon and surrounding area. Saskatchewan Rivers School Division
The Saskatchewan Rivers School Division #119 comprises 33 schools in the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan area, and is the third largest school division in the province. This division has over 9500 students enrolled, with 365 support personnel, 475 teachers, and 88 division owned buses (2200 kids ride the bus every day). There are a total of 14 microwave towers in the rural centres of the district, which ensure that rural students have access to high speed networking. There are six community schools, and three schools providing French immersion. A police liaison program is provided in the urban centre where the officer has a school office. This division contains the largest high school in Saskatchewan: Carlton Comprehensive High School (operating since 1975). Regina School Division
Regina School Division #4, also known as Regina Public Schools (RPS), is the Anglophone secular public school district of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Its headquarters, J.A. Burnett Education Centre, was named after teacher Jim Burnett. the school district collects ethnicity data on registration forms, but there is also an anonymous self-reporting Tell Them From Me survey which collects self-reported data. The latter has higher percentages of students with First Nations ancestry declared compared to the former. In 2021 there was a proposal for diversity training for every person working for the school district. All members of the school board voted in favor to enact this. Prince Albert Roman Catholic School Division
The Prince Albert Roman Catholic School Division is the host of nine schools in the Prince Albert urban area. It offers education in both French immersion and English on the elementary and high school level. It used to have an all-girl junior/high school facility, as well as an alternative education program. There are three community schools in this division as well. The current Director of Education is Ms. Lorel Tumier. This school division puts a strong focus on Christian values without compromising educational integrity. Although it is a Christian division it does not expect its students to be of Christian background in their high school facilities. It does however demand that students participate in all school activities including Christian-related ones.
