List Of Regional Burning Man Events
The following is a list of regional Burning Man events ordered alphabetically by geography. Not all of these events are affiliated with the Burning Man organization. Africa South Africa * AfrikaBurnofficial site Initiated in 2006 by Paul Jorgensen, the event was put together with the assistance of early crew members Lil Black, Robert Weinek, Paul Grose and Monique Schiess and was held for the first time in 2007 on Stonehenge Private Reserve in the Tankwa Karoo, a sparsely-inhabited semi-desert region of South Africa's Northern Cape Province. In 2018, 11 000 people participated in building Tankwa Town, a beautiful space created by various kinds of people. The event, like many other Regionals, features artworks (some of which are burned), mutant vehicles, theme camps, much fire and many performances. Burning Man
Burning Man is an event focused on community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance held annually in the western United States. The name of the event comes from its culminating ceremony: the symbolic burning of a large wooden effigy, referred to as the Man, that occurs on the penultimate night of Burning Man, which is the Saturday evening before Labor Day. The event has been located since 1991 at Black Rock City in northwestern Nevada, a temporary city erected in the Black Rock Desert about north-northeast of Reno. As outlined by Burning Man co-founder Larry Harvey in 2004, the event is guided by ten principles: radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy. Los Gatos, California
Los Gatos (, ; ) is an incorporated town in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population is 33,529 according to the 2020 census. It is located in the San Francisco Bay Area just southwest of San Jose in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Los Gatos is part of Silicon Valley, with several high technology companies maintaining a presence there. Notably, Netflix, the streaming service and content creator, is headquartered in Los Gatos and has developed a large presence in the area. Etymology ''Los Gatos'' is Spanish for "The Cats". The name derives from the 1839 Alta California land-grant that encompassed the area, which was called '' La Rinconada de Los Gatos'' ("The Corner of the Cats"), where the ''cats'' refers to the cougars (mountain lions) and bobcats that are indigenous to the foothills in which the town is located. Maker Space
A hackerspace (also referred to as a hacklab, hackspace, or makerspace) is a community-operated, often "not for profit" (501(c)(3) in the United States), workspace where people with common interests, such as computers, machining, technology, science, digital art, or electronic art, can meet, socialize, and collaborate. Hackerspaces are comparable to other community-operated spaces with similar aims and mechanisms such as Fab Lab, men's sheds, and commercial "for-profit" companies. History Hackerspaces with open membership became common throughout Germany in the 1990s in the orbit of the German Chaos Computer Club (CCC), with the c-base being probably an example. The concept, however, was limited to less than a dozen spaces within Germany, and did not spread beyond borders at first. Alchemy (event)
Alchemy is a burn event operated according to the 10 Principles of Burning Man held annually in the early fall. Alchemy was first held in 2007 and grew quickly to become the largest regional burn in the United States and second largest in the world in 2012. In 2013, the event cap was lowered by approximately 1,000. However the 2014 cap was set at 3,200 participants as was the 2015 cap. Until 2016, Alchemy was held at Cherokee Farms, a private campground in La Fayette, Georgia, approximately 100 miles northwest of Atlanta. Alchemy 2016 took place in Bowdon, Georgia at Little Big Jam. That year's ticket cap was 2,700. Alchemy and its sister event Euphoria are now managed by the Georgia non-profit Flashpoint Artists Initiative.
