The mayor of Venice (Italian: ''sindaco di Venezia'') is an elected politician who, along with the Venice City Council of 36 members, is accountable for the strategic government of the municipality of Venice, Veneto, Italy. The current office holder is Luigi Brugnaro, a centre-right wing independent businessman who has been in charge since 2015. The last election took place in 2020. Overview According to the Italian Constitution, the Mayor of Venice is member of the Venice's City Council. Although the title Mayor is not held by the heads of the six boroughs of Venice, because they do not actually preside over self-governmental municipalities. Luigi Brugnaro
Luigi Brugnaro (born 13 September 1961) is an Italian conservative politician and entrepreneur who has been the Mayor of Venice, since taking office on 15 June 2015. Since July 2021, he is also president of Coraggio Italia (CI), a centrist political party affiliated with the Centre-right coalition (Italy), centre-right coalition. Biography Entrepreneurial career Brugnaro was graduated in architecture at Venice IUAV. He has been owner of the Reyer Venezia Mestre basketball team, a past chairman of Confindustria Venice and a former president of Assolavoro. The Left group ( it, Sinistra), later called Historical Left ( it, Sinistra storica) by historians to distinguish it from the left-wing groups of the 20th century, was a liberal and reformist parliamentary group in Italy during the second half of the 19th century. Lorenzo Tiepolo (politician)
Lorenzo Tiepolo (died August 15, 1275) was Doge of Venice from 1268 until his death. Biography Born in Venice, Lorenzo Tiepolo was the son of Doge Jacopo Tiepolo. Tiepolo demonstrated skill as commander when, during the War of Saint Sabas with Genoa, he defeated the Genoese at the Battle of Acre in 1258. He served also as a podestà of Fano. In 1262, he took part in the peace negotiation between Venice and prince William of Villehardouin, whose vassal he was for the islands of Skopelos and Skyros, in the aftermath of the War of the Euboeote Succession. In 1268, after the death of Reniero Zeno, Lorenzo was elected as Doge on July 23 of that year, with 25 votes out of 41. Although beloved by the population, he attracted the hostility of the Venetian nobility for his nepotism towards his sons.
