List Of Franco-Belgian Comic Series
Franco-Belgian comics, together with American and British comic books and Japanese manga, are one of the three main markets. The term is broad, and can be applied to all comics made by French and Belgian comics authors, all comics originally published by French and Belgian comics publishers, or all comics in the styles appearing in the Franco-Belgian comics magazines ''Tintin'' and '' Spirou'', possibly expanded to include later magazines like ''Pilote'', '' Métal Hurlant'', and ''A Suivre''. Comics which are not created in French but in Dutch are sometimes included and sometimes excluded from the Franco-Belgian comics. For this list, a broad definition is taken, including all notable comics series first published by a French or Belgian publisher, no matter what language or nationality the authors have. Dargaud
Société Dargaud, doing business as Les Éditions Dargaud, is a publisher of Franco-Belgian comics series, headquartered in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. It was founded in 1936 by Georges Dargaud (), publishing its first comics in 1943. History Initially, Dargaud published novels for women. In 1948, it started ''Line'', a "magazine for elegant women", as well as a French edition of the Belgian ''Tintin'' magazine. In 1960, Dargaud bought the weekly ''Pilote'' magazine from René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo, and Jean-Michel Charlier. Goscinny continued as editor of the magazine, and Charlier was album editor for a period. In October 1961, Dargaud published the first ''Asterix'' album. In 1974, Dargaud wanted to diversify. ''Pilote'' became a monthly magazine and spawned two other monthly magazines. Dark Horse Comics is an American comic book, graphic novel, and manga publisher founded in Milwaukie, Oregon by Mike Richardson in 1986. The company was created using funds earned from Richardson's chain of Portland, Oregon comic book shops known as Pegasus Books and founded in 1980. Dark Horse Comics has emerged as the fourth largest comic publishing company in the United States of America. Nantier Beall Minoustchine Publishing Inc. (or NBM Publishing) is an American graphic novel publisher. Founded by Terry Nantier in 1976 as Flying Buttress Publications, NBM is one of the oldest graphic novel publishers in North America. The company publishes English adaptations and translations of popular European comics, compilations of classic comic strips, and original fiction and nonfiction graphic novels. In addition to NBM Graphic Novels, the company has several imprints including Papercutz with comics geared towards younger audiences, ComicsLit for literary graphic fiction, and Eurotica and Amerotica for adult comics. Casterman is a publisher of Franco-Belgian comics, specializing in comic books and children's literature. The company is based in Brussels, Belgium. History The company was founded in 1780 by Donat-Joseph Casterman, an editor and bookseller originally from Tournai.Bocquet, José-Louis, and Fromental, Jean-Luc. ''The Adventures of Hergé'' (Drawn and Quarterly, 2011). Casterman was originally a printing company and publishing house. Jacques Tardi
Jacques Tardi (; born 30 August 1946) is a French comic artist. He is often credited solely as Tardi. Biography Tardi was born on 30 August 1946 in Valence, Drôme. After graduating from the École nationale des beaux-arts de Lyon and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, he started drawing comics in 1969, at the age of 23, in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine ''Pilote'', initially illustrating short stories written by Jean Giraud and Serge de Beketch, before creating the political fiction story ''Rumeur sur le Rouergue'' from a scenario by Pierre Christin in 1972. In the English language, many of Tardi's books are published by Fantagraphics Books, edited and translated by Fantagraphics' co-founder Kim Thompson. In 2013, Tardi was nominated as a ''Chevalier'' in France's Legion of Honour, the country's highest distinction. Standaard Uitgeverij is a Belgian publisher, and the leading publisher in the Dutch language market of Flanders. History In 1919, the Standaard group was created, mainly consisting of a chain of bookshops ( Standaard Boekhandel), a newspaper (''De Standaard'') and a publishing house, the Standaard Uitgeverij. Charel Cambré
Charel Cambré (born 27 April 1968 as Carl Cambré) is a Flemish Belgian comics artist and author. Biography Carl Cambré was born in 1968 in Herenthout. After his studies at the art school of Lier and animation at the Royal Academy of Ghent, he worked in some foreign animation studies, before he started creating comics. He lives in Nieuwrode, a part of Holsbeek. His first published comic was ''Streetkids'' in ''Suske & Wiske Weekblad'', which appeared from 1993 until 2003. From 2005 on he worked for the Studio Vandersteen, while continuing to create his own series at the same time. He often works together with Marc Legendre, first on the ''Spike and Suzy'' spin-off series ''Amoras'', and since 2017 on the '' Spirou et Fantasio'' spin-off ''Robbedoes Special'', which marks the first time that Flemish authors have created an album in the iconic Franco-Belgian comic series.
