Comic Book Convention
A comic book convention or comic-con is an event with a primary focus on comic books and comic book culture, in which comic book fans gather to meet creators, experts, and each other. Commonly, comic conventions are multi-day events hosted at convention centers, hotels, or college campuses. They feature a wide variety of activities and panels, with a larger number of attendees participating in cosplay than most other types of fan conventions. Comic book conventions are also used as a vehicle for industry, in which publishers, distributors, and retailers represent their comic-related releases. Comic book conventions may be considered derivatives of science-fiction conventions, which began in the late 1930s. PerifaCon
PerifaCon, also informally called Comic Con da Favela (Favela Comic Con), is a comic book event held since 2019 in São Paulo with a focus on reaching mainly the public from the outskirts of São Paulo, who are hardly able to participate in large events such as CCXP due to cost and distance. The name PerifaCon merges the terms "Perifa", slang for ''periferia'', and "Con", which refers to comic cons. ''Periferia'' can be literally translated as " suburb", but in Brazilian Portuguese the term is used mainly for the areas of the metropolitan regions with the highest index of poverty and also for the favelas. History The idea for PerifaCon emerged in September 2018 in a group of seven young black people from the ''periferia'': Andreza Delgado, Igor Nogueira, Mateus Ramos, Matheus Polito, Luíze Tavares, Gabrielly Oliveira and Pedro Okuyama. Alternative Press Expo
The Alternative Press Expo (APE) was a comic book festival and alternative comics convention that operated from 1994 to 2017. Founded by Slave Labor Graphics publisher Dan Vado, APE focused on self-published, independent, and alternative cartoonists and comic publishers. History APE was organized by Vado in 1994 as an event for artists to "promote themselves without having to drown out a 50-million-watt display by some huge publisher." The first APE was held as a one-day event in San Jose, California. Vado transferred management of APE to Comic-Con International in 1995. Vancouver Halloween Parade & Expo
The Vancouver Halloween Parade & Expo is a festival of arts, performances, cosplay, comics, anime, films, costumes and makeup. The festival consists of an outdoor Parade in downtown Vancouver and an indoor Expo made of music and performing arts festival, arts exhibition and comic convention. Toronto Comicon (currently stylized as ''Toronto Comicon'', previously as ''Toronto ComiCon'') is an annual comic book and pop culture convention held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre since 2001. Toronto Comic Arts Festival
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) is a comic book festival held annually in Toronto, Ontario. Founded in 2003, TCAF has grown to become one of the world’s largest festivals dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of comic arts. Programming TCAF focuses on alternative and independent comics, but includes other creative arts besides comics. Unlike traditional comic book conventions, TCAF is modeled off of independent comic festivals and art book fairs such as the Angoulême International Comics Festival and Small Press Expo. Ottawa Comiccon
The Ottawa Comiccon is a fan convention with a focus on comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and games. It is a spin-off of the Montreal Comiccon. It was launched in 2012. The event features comic books, toys, games, science-fiction, horror, anime, non-sport cards, and collectibles. It is held at the EY Centre convention center in Ottawa, taking place in May and lasting three days. The organizers of the Ottawa Comiccon primarily come from the Montreal Comiccon organization. Montreal Comiccon
The Montreal Comiccon (French: ''Le Comiccon de Montréal''), under its current form, was launched in 2006 as "Montreal Comic-Con". The event features comic books, toys, games, science-fiction, horror, anime, non-sport cards and collectibles. It is held 2 times a year at the Palais des Congrès convention center in downtown Montreal, with the larger "Comic-Con" taking place in July over the course of 3 days. Hal-Con Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Comic Convention, commonly known as Hal-Con, was founded in the 1970s and revived in the 2010s. It is traditionally an annual weekend event held in Halifax, Nova Scotia in Atlantic Canada during the middle of Fall.
