Charles Chauvel (filmmaker)
Charles Edward Chauvel OBE (7 October 1897 – 11 November 1959) was an Australian filmmaker, producer and screenwriter and nephew of Australian army General Sir Harry Chauvel. He is noted for writing and directing the films '' Forty Thousand Horsemen'' in 1940 and ''Jedda'' in 1955. His wife, Elsa Chauvel, was a frequent collaborator on his filmmaking projects. Early life Family Charles Edward Chauvel was born on 7 October 1897 in Warwick, Queensland, the son of James Allan Chauvel and his wife Susan Isabella (née Barnes), pioneer farmers in the Mutdapilly area. He was the nephew of General Sir Harry Chauvel, Commander of the Australian Light Horse and later the Desert Mounted Corps in Palestine during World War I. His father, a grazier, at 53 also enlisted to serve in Palestine and Sinai in World War I. Coral Edith Browne (23 July 1913 – 29 May 1991) was an Australian-American stage and screen actress. Her extensive theatre credits included Broadway productions of ''Macbeth'' (1956), '' The Rehearsal'' (1963) and '' The Right Honourable Gentleman'' (1965). She won the 1984 BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for the BBC TV film ''An Englishman Abroad'' (1983). Her film appearances included ''Auntie Mame'' (1958), ''The Killing of Sister George'' (1968), '' The Ruling Class'' (1972) and ''Dreamchild'' (1985). She was also actor Vincent Price's third wife. ''Waltzing Matilda'' is a 1933 Australian film directed by and starring Pat Hanna. It features Coral Browne. Plot Chic Williams and his friend James Brown wrongly believe they have injured a policeman in a drunken fight. Fleeing a private detective who is following them, they head for the bush. Chic and James find work as drovers at Banjaroo Station, where his old army mate Joe works as an overseer. James falls in love with the station owner's daughter. Constance Worth (born Enid Joyce Howarth; 19 August 1911 – 18 October 1963) was an Australian actress who became a Hollywood star in the late 1930s. She was also known as Jocelyn Howarth. John Warwick
John McIntosh Beattie (4 January 1905 – 10 January 1972), known professionally as John Warwick, was an Australian actor, and television dramatist. Early life He was born John McIntosh Beattie (many sources give "Beattle") at Bellingen, New South Wales, Australia. He took the name Warwick from his secondary school. Acting career Warwick had an extensive career over 40 years, beginning in Australian cinema in the early 1930s (he is attributed with introducing Errol Flynn, a personal acquaintance in Sydney, to acting by bringing him along to a casting session when ''In the Wake of the Bounty'' was being filmed).
