Lisa Peters
Lisa Peters is a Welsh curler who represented Wales in the 2008, 2009 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships, the 2009 European Curling Championships, and the 2010 European Curling Championships. She is one of Wales's two representatives to the World Curling Federation. She was born in Wrexham in north Wales. Peters started curling in 2001 and plays for the Alyn Valley club at the Deeside Leisure Centre Deeside Leisure Centre is a sports centre located in Queensferry, Flintshire. Its facilities include Deeside Ice Rink (an Olympic-sized inline hockey rink), badminton courts, and squash courts. The centre was the venue for the 1974 Wightman Cup ... in north Wales. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. 2008 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship
The 2008 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was held March 8–15, 2008 in Vierumäki, Finland at the Vierumäki Ice Rink. World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships
The World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships are annual curling tournaments featuring the world's best teams of mixed doubles curlers. History The tournament began in 2008 with the 2008 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. Switzerland's mixed doubles team of Irene Schori and Toni Müller dominated the 2008 and 2009 championships and appeared in the first three worlds. At the 2010 Worlds, Russia won its first ever world curling title by defeating New Zealand, also first-time curling medalists. Russia did not successfully defend its world title, however, as they were defeated in the final of the 2011 Worlds by Switzerland, who won its third championship in four years. Switzerland then defended its title the next year, earning its fourth gold medal with a win over Sweden. In 2013, Hungary won their first world curling title after defeating Sweden in the final. World Curling Federation
The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland. At the outset, it comprised the associations of Scotland, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States. In the wake of its formation, it sanctioned the World Curling Championships. Deeside Leisure Centre
Deeside Leisure Centre is a sports centre located in Queensferry, Flintshire. Its facilities include Deeside Ice Rink (an Olympic-sized inline hockey rink), badminton courts, and squash courts. The centre was the venue for the 1974 Wightman Cup match. The ice rink is the National Centre for Ice Sports in Wales and is home to the Deeside Dragons, thFlintshire Phantomsand the Deeside Demons ice hockey teams. It was used as a temporary home by the Manchester Phoenix during the 2006–07 EIHL season while the Altrincham Ice Dome was being constructed. The Phoenix moved back to Deeside for the 2015/16 Season after they were evicted from Altrincham by the rink's owners. There has also been a new indoor skate park and gym added to the Leisure Centre.
