Linotype-Hell DaVinci
Linotype-Hell DaVinci was an image manipulation program targeted at the repro and print shop markets. It originally ran on proprietary hardware, but was later ported to Silicon Graphics workstations. The first version was released in 1993, and it continued to see regular releases until Heidelberg acquired Linotype-Hell in 1997. Heidelberg continued to update the software a few times before it was discontinued in April 2001, but the core engines for trapping and color management were recoded to work on PDF files and were a key contributor to the commercial success of Prinergy, whicbenefittedfrom the Heidelberg-Creo joint venture. Development Hardware DaVinci originally ran on proprietary "Power" workstations with dual 68040 or 88110 processors and several custom ASICs. Later it was ported to SGI IRIX based "Sprint" systems. da Vinci Systems was an American digital cinema company founded in 1984 in Coral Springs, Florida as a spinoff of Video Tape Associates. It was known for its hardware-based color correction products, GPU-based color grading, digital mastering systems, and film restoration and remastering systems. Tag Image File Format, abbreviated TIFF or TIF, is an image file format for storing raster graphics images, popular among graphic artists, the publishing industry, and photographers. TIFF is widely supported by scanning, faxing, word processing, optical character recognition, image manipulation, desktop publishing, and page-layout applications. The format was created by the Aldus Corporation for use in desktop publishing. IRIX ( ) is a discontinued operating system developed by Silicon Graphics (SGI) to run on the company's proprietary MIPS workstations and servers. It is based on UNIX System V with BSD extensions. In IRIX, SGI originated the XFS file system and the industry-standard OpenGL graphics system. Dalim Tango
Dalim Tango was a color retouching package aimed at the repro and prepress markets. It ran on Silicon Graphics workstations, and was first released in 1993. This retouching package is still available in the DALiM LiTHO program. As of 2013, LiTHO version 7 is available for both Linux and Mac OS X operating systems. Features Tango had tools for retouching, creative painting, image manipulation and "merging" different images. It supported the standard CMYK, RGB, CIELAB and HLS color space, HLS color spaces. Users could also work in a CMYK++ mode, which added special inks to the standard four-color CMYK palette, somewhat similar to the InkSwitch module of Barco Creator. A software densitometer with unlimited sample sites was also included. Tango 2.0 could open TIFF, Scitex CT and Dalim native formats. Barco ColorTone
Barco ColorTone was a stripped-down version of the Barco Creator image manipulation program. It was originally developed for IRIX, and only featured the base "CT-Brix", brush and colour correction modules. An additional "image quality estimator" module, not featured in Creator, was also added. Later it was ported as a standalone program to Windows NT. Esko continued to support it after the Barco Graphics division merged with Purup-Eskofot to form Esko Graphics. Now known as Esko ColorTone, the current 3.0 version also features the optional CT-Brix modules "InkSwitch" and "BlackSmith" in addition to the "FlexoFix" filter. The O2 was an entry-level Unix workstation introduced in 1996 by Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI) to replace their earlier Indy series. Like the Indy, the O2 used a single MIPS microprocessor and was intended to be used mainly for multimedia. Its larger counterpart was the SGI Octane.
