Linden City Schools
The Linden City School District is the city school district for Linden in Marengo County, Alabama. It is the smallest school district in the state. It operates three schools, which include Linden Elementary School, George P. Austin Junior High School, and Linden High School. The system educates roughly 500 students and employs more than 80. Failing schools Statewide testing ranks the schools in Alabama. Those in the bottom six percent are listed as "failing." As of early 2018, Linden High School was included in this category. Linden, Alabama
Linden is a city in and the county seat of Marengo County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,930 at the 2020 census, down from 2,123 at the 2010 census. History Settled prior to 1818, the community was first known as "Screamersville", since the cry of wild animals could still be heard during the night. It became the county seat in 1819 and was then known as the "Town of Marengo". This was changed to "Hohenlinden" in 1823, to honor the county's earliest European settlers, French Bonapartist refugees to the Vine and Olive Colony. The name commemorated the battle in 1800 at Hohenlinden, Bavaria, where the French defeated the armies of both Austria and Bavaria.
