Lin Shu-ling
Lin Shu-ling (; born 1976), is an Amis woman from the Tse-tung ''buluo'' (indigenous village community), in the Fushan Village, Beinan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. As a traditional custodian of the land on which the Taitung Miramar Resort was built, she was a leader of the community movement against it, and became a voice for indigenous land rights in Taiwan. In 2018, Lin announced her intention to run as a plains aborigines candidate in the Beinan Township representing the New Power Party in the November 2018 Taitung County Government elections. However, in September 2018, she was disqualified by the Taitung Election Commission due to having a conviction for "public abuse". She has appealed her disqualification to the Central Election Commission. Amis People
The Amis ( ami, Amis, Ami, Pangcah; ), also known as the Pangcah, are an indigenous Austronesian ethnic group native to Taiwan. They speak the Amis language (; ), an Austronesian language, and are one of the sixteen officially recognized Taiwanese indigenous peoples. The traditional territory of the Amis includes the long, narrow valley between the Central Mountains and the Coastal Mountains (Huadong Valley), the Pacific coastal plain eastern to the Coastal Mountains and the Hengchun Peninsula. In 2014, the Amis numbered 200,604. This was approximately 37.1% of Taiwan's total indigenous population, making them the largest indigenous group. The Amis are primarily fishermen due to their coastal location. They traditionally had a matrilineal kinship system, by which inheritance and property pass through the maternal line, and children are considered born to the mother's people. Huang Chun-fa (; born 1957) is a Taiwanese businessman and son of Huang Rong-hua (黃榮華), one of the founding brothers of the Miramar Group conglomerate and the Miramar Huang family (美麗華黃家). According to a China Post report, “The Miramar Group consists of subdivisions owned by different members within the giant, extended Huang family”. 2018 Taiwanese Local Elections
Local elections were held on 24 November 2018 in Taiwan, to elect county magistrates (city mayors), county (city) councilors, township mayors, township councilors and chiefs of village (borough) in 6 municipalities and 16 counties (cities). Elected officials would serve a four-year term. Polling stations were open from 08:00 to 16:00 on the election day. The elections resulted in a substantial defeat for the DPP.
