Limbs Dance Company
The Limbs Dance Company was formed in Auckland, New Zealand in May 1977 and disbanded in Wellington in September 1989. Limbs was "the first contemporary dance company in New Zealand to win a general following", and performed alongside notable New Zealand acts such as Split Enz. Choreographers included Mary Jane O'Reilly, Chris Jannides, Mark Baldwin (choreographer), Mark Baldwin, Douglas Wright (dancer), Douglas Wright, Marianne Schultz and Shona McCullagh. Dorothea Ashbridge was the resident ballet mistress. Music for the dances included that by Coconut Rough, Split Enz, Schtung, the Topp Twins, Jack Body, Chris Cree Brown, Don McGlashan, Philip Dadson, Wayne Laird, Jan Preston and Ivan Zagni When the company closed their records were taken to Auckland Libraries, Auckland City Library. Schtung
Schtung were a New Zealand progressive rock band active from 1976. The band developed out of school-era bands formed by friends keyboardist/vocalist Andrew Hagen and guitarist/vocalist Morton Wilson. Additional members were: Rob Sinclair (bass/vocals), Paul Jeffrey (keyboards/vocals), Geoff Bowdler drums), and Dave Bowater (woodwinds/percussion). The band signed a recording contract with PolyGram underwater, wearing scuba gear. Auckland Libraries is the public library system for the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It was created when the seven separate councils in the Auckland region merged in 2010. Ivan Zagni
Ivan Zagni (born 16 October 1942) is a New Zealand-based musician and composer who has been a member of bands such as Jody Grind, Big Sideways and Avant Garage, and has recorded albums with Aynsley Dunbar, Elton Dean, Don McGlashan and Peter Scholes. Early pop and rock years Ivan Zagni sang as a boy chorister at Norwich's St John the Baptist Catholic Cathedral and began taking guitar lessons at age 12. In 1958 he performed his own composition "Black Coffee" for a local documentary screened on BBC TV. His first group was The Cadillacs with his brothers John and Frank. He then teamed up with vocalist Mike Patto ( Spooky Tooth) in The Continentals, soon renamed The News and signed to Decca for two singles. Jan Preston
Jan Preston is a pianist, composer and songwriter, known as Australasia's Queen of Boogie Piano due to her mastery of the 1930s boogie-woogie piano style. Originally classically trained, she has released over ten solo albums, often featuring her boogie-woogie piano playing. Preston has been a member of bands, including Midge Marsden's Country Flyers, Coup D'Etat (with Harry Lyon) and, in Australia, The Tribe. She sang lead vocals on the Coup D'Etat single ''No Music on my Radio.'' She worked with theatre cooperative Red Mole, alongside their backing band Red Alert. Her work was documented by Sam Neill in the film ''Red Mole on the Road''. Philip Dadson
Philip Dadson (born 1946 in Napier, New Zealand) is a New Zealand musician and artist, who was in the foundation group for the Scratch Orchestra and founder of From Scratch. He lectured at the Elam School of Fine Arts, part of the University of Auckland from 1977, leaving in 2001 to take up full-time art practice. He co-authored the 2007 book ''Slap Tubes and other Plosive Aerophones'' with fellow instrument inventor Bart Hopkin, whose 1998 CD/book ''Gravikords, Whirlies & Pyrophones'' had also featured Dadson's group From Scratch. In 2010 the Wellington Sculpture Trust commissioned ''Akau Tangi'', a wind powered sculpture installed on Cobham Drive, Wellington. Don McGlashan
Donald McGlashan (born 18 July 1959) is a New Zealand composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist who Is best known for membership in the bands Blam Blam Blam, The Front Lawn, and The Mutton Birds, before going solo. He has also composed for cinema and television. Among other instruments, McGlashan has played guitar, drums, euphonium and French horn. McGlashan has played with percussion group From Scratch, and bands The Bellbirds, The Plague, and composed pieces for New Zealand's Limbs Dance Company. Jack Body
John Stanley Body (7 October 1944 – 10 May 2015) was a New Zealand composer, ethnomusicologist, photographer, teacher, and arts producer. As a composer, his work comprised concert music, music theatre, electronic music, music for film and dance, and audio-visual gallery installations. A deep and long-standing interest in the music of non-Western cultures – particularly South-East Asian – influenced much of his composing work, particularly his technique of transcribing field recordings. As an organiser of musical events and projects, Body had a significant impact on the promotion of Asian music in New Zealand, as well as the promotion of New Zealand music within the country and abroad. Topp Twins
The Topp Twins (born 14 May 1958) are the folk singing and activist sister comedy duo of New Zealand entertainers Jools and Lynda Topp. They are known for their country music influenced style, live shows and television performances. They often perform as characters, the most notable being the roles ''Ken & Ken'', and ''Camp Mother & Camp Leader''. Coconut Rough
Coconut Rough were a short-lived New Zealand pop/ new wave band formed in 1982. Despite their 1983 first single, "Sierra Leone", hitting the top five, and the band being named ''Most Promising Group of the Year'' at that year's RIANZ Awards they split up in 1984. History The band was formed in 1982 by lead singer Andrew Snoid, formerly with New Zealand bands the Whizz Kids, Pop Mechanix and Australian-based New Zealand group the Swingers, and guitarist Mark Bell. Bell later joined Snoid in a reformed Pop Mechanix. Other member were bassist Dennis "Choc" Te Whare, keyboardist Stuart Pearce and drummer Paul Hewitt, and later bassist Bones Hillman.
