Lila Avilés
Lila Avilés (born in 1982) is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, actress and producer. Life and career Born in Mexico City, Avilés studied scenic arts with Ximena Escalante and José Caballero, and film scriptwriting with Beatriz Novaro and Paula Marcovich. After directing some shorts, she made her feature film debut in 2018 with '' The Chambermaid'', which premiered at the 43rd Toronto International Film Festival. With this film, Avilés won the Ariel Award for best debut work, and got a nomination for best director. The film was also chosen as the Mexican entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards. Avilés' second feature film, ''Tótem'', was entered into the main competition at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Ecumenical Award for Best Film. 73rd Berlin International Film Festival
The 73rd annual Berlin International Film Festival, usually called the Berlinale (), took place from 16 to 26 February 2023. It was the first completely in-person Berlinale since the 70th in 2020. The festival has added a new award for best television series this year. On 15 December 2022, the first Panorama and Generation titles for the festival were announced, and on 13 January 2023, many world premieres were added to out-of-competition lineup, including Israeli filmmaker Guy Nattiv's '' Golda''—a biographical film about Golda Meir, first female Prime Minister of Israel. Aside from the stipulation that the films use Miu Miu clothing the all female directors are given carte blanche to create their films. Miu Miu has commissioned two films a year since 2011, one for their summer collection and one for the winter collection. Since 2012, all of the winter collection films have had their world premiere at the ''Venice Days'' section of the Venice International Film Festival. The summer collection films, which typically premiere during the New York Fashion Week in February, are shown there as well.
