Dmitry Sergeyevich Likhachov (russian: Дми́трий Серге́евич Лихачёв, also ''Dmitri Likhachev'' or ''Likhachyov''; – 30 September 1999) was a Russian medievalist, linguist, and a former inmate of Gulag. During his lifetime, Likhachov was considered the world's foremost scholar of the Old Russian language and its literature. He was revered as "the last of old St Petersburgers", and as "a guardian of national culture". Due to his high profile as a Soviet dissident writer, social critic, and activist during his later life, Likhachov was often referred to as "Russia's conscience". Valery Nikolayevich Likhachov (russian: Валерий Николаевич Лихачëв; born 5 December 1947) is a retired Russian cyclist. He was part of the Soviet team that won the Cycling at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Men's team time trial, 100 km team time trial event at the 1970 UCI Road World Championships and the 1972 Summer Olympics; individually, he finished in 34th place in the Cycling at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Men's individual road race, road race in 1972. Vasily Nikolayevich Likhachyov (russian: link=no, Василий Николаевич Лихачёв; 5 January 1952, Nizhny Novgorod, Gorky – 8 April 2019) was a Russian politician, the Permanent Representative for Russia to the European Council (1998), and Deputy Minister of Justice in Russia. Since 2011 until his death he was a Russian State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Likhachyov was the son of Nina F. Likhachyova and was married to Nailya Imatovna Taktasheva and had two daughters.
