Lieko Shiga
Lieko Shiga (志賀理江子; born 1980) is a Japanese photographer. She is best known for her "Rasen Kaigan" (spiral coast) series. Career Shiga was born in Okazaki, Aichi in 1980. After graduating from high school she enrolled in Tokyo Polytechnic University. She left school halfway through the term and enrolled at Chelsea College of Arts in London in 1999. She graduated in 2004. From 2007 to 2008, Shiga was part of an Agency of Cultural Affairs program for young artists that allowed her to continue studying in London. While participating in the program she published ''Lilly,'' a photograph collection of people living in her apartment building. She also won the Kimura Ihei Award for ''Canary,'' a photograph series taken in Australia and Sendai. In 2009 she won an Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography in New York City. Masatoshi Naitō
is a Japanese photographer. According to Michael Hoppen Gallery, Naitō was born in Tokyo in 1938. He graduated from Waseda University in applied sciences and trained as a research scientist. A keen interest in the folkloric traditions of Japan led him to pursue a career in photography. His work on the ethnological customs of the region of Tōhoku became the focus of his 1970s series: Ba Ba Bakuhatsu (Grandma Explosion). Early on in his career, Naitō photographed the mummies of Buddhist priests who had died fasting for the salvation of starving farmers in Dewa Sanzan and then started making photographs that focused on the folk religions and ethnology of Tōhoku. In this body of work (1968–1970), Naitō portrays ''itako'', female shamans who invoke the spirits of the dead. Tokyo Polytechnic University
is a private university in Honchō, Nakano, Tokyo. Its nickname is ''Shadai'' (写大). It was formerly known as Tokyo College of Photography (, ''Tōkyō Shashin Daigaku''). The university was founded as Konishi Professional School of Photography in Shibuya in 1923.
