Licio Giorgieri
Licio Giorgieri (1 June 1925 – 20 March 1987) was an Italian air force general who was killed by a faction the far-left terrorist organisation Red Brigades. Biography Giorgieri was born in Trieste. He graduated in naval and mechanical engineering in the University of Trieste in 1949 and later enrolled as officer of the Italian Air Force Engineering Corps in 1950. In 1983 he was promoted to General Inspector, becoming commander of the Corps and director of the Air Force's Direction of Aircraft Weapons. He also taught Rockets and Space Propulsion in the universities of Trieste and Rome. On 20 March 1987, Giorgieri was ambushed by a commando of the Red Brigades; the Union of Combatant Communists in Rome. Red Brigades
The Red Brigades ( it, Brigate Rosse , often abbreviated BR) was a far-left Marxist–Leninist armed organization operating as a terrorist and guerrilla group based in Italy responsible for numerous violent incidents, including the abduction and murder of former Prime Minister Aldo Moro, during the Years of Lead. Formed in 1970, the Red Brigades sought to create a revolutionary state through armed struggle, and to remove Italy from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The organization attained notoriety in the 1970s and early 1980s with their violent acts of sabotage, bank robberies, the kneecapping of certain industrialists, factory owners, bankers, and politicians deemed to be exploitative; and the kidnappings and/or murders of industrialists, prominent capitalists, politicians, law enforcement officials, and other perceived “enemies” of the working-class revolution. The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is an American single-engine, supersonic air superiority fighter which was extensively deployed as a fighter-bomber during the Cold War. Created as a day fighter by Lockheed as one of the "Century Series" of fighter aircraft for the United States Air Force (USAF), it was developed into an all-weather multirole aircraft in the early 1960s and produced by several other nations, seeing widespread service outside the United States. After a series of interviews with Korean War fighter pilots in 1951, Kelly Johnson, then lead designer at Lockheed, opted to reverse the trend of ever-larger and more complex fighters and produce a simple, lightweight aircraft with maximum altitude and climb performance.
