Libya National Channel
Libya National Channel (LNC) (Arabic : قناة ليبيا الوطنية), also known as Libya's National Television Channel or simply Libya's Channel, is a Libyan television news channel. The channel was established after the fall of Muammar al-Gaddafi in 2011, and is a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The channel aims to provide the Libyan people with truthful news and objective information, as well as programs that do not advocate the views of individual parties or groups. LNC purchases and broadcasts programs from other Arab broadcasters and production companies. Due to the security situation in Libya, and several attacks on the LNC and other media houses, the news channel is broadcast from the Jordanian capital Amman. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU; french: Union européenne de radio-télévision, links=no, UER) is an alliance of Public broadcasting, public service media organisations whose countries are within the European Broadcasting Area or who are member states of the Council of Europe, members of the Council of Europe. , it is made up of 112 member organizations from 54 countries, and 31 associate members from a further 20 countries. Television in Libya has a penetration estimated at 76% for 2011. History Television was introduced in Libya in December 1968, when two stations opened at Tripoli and Benghazi. Before the 2011 civil war, there were eight free-to-air satellite channels headquartered in the country, seven of which were owned by the Libyan Jamahiriya Broadcasting Corporation. Libya Radio and Television Corporation (LRTC) has become the successor to the LJBC, and more than 20 stations are said to be broadcasting in the country. Amongst the new independent satellite channels to have launched in 2011, were Al Watan TV, Alassema TV, Libya Al Ahrar TV and Libya Alhurra TV, all of which broadcast news, talk shows and current affairs.
