Liberalism In Armenia
This article gives an overview of liberalism in Armenia. It is limited to liberal parties with substantial support, mainly proved by having had representation in the National Assembly of Armenia. Background Prior to Armenia's independence, a national liberal movement arose in the country. Armenia officially gained its independence in 1991 from the Soviet Union. Following which, there were some attempts to establish a national liberal movement, however, these initial attempts were largely unsuccessful. Armenia

2018 Armenian Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on 9 December 2018, as none of the parties in the National Assembly were able to put forward and then elect a candidate for Prime Minister in the two-week period following the resignation of incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on 16 October. They were the first elections after the 2018 revolution and the country's first-ever snap elections. The result was a landslide victory for Pashinyan's My Step Alliance, which received 70% of the vote and won 88 of the 132 seats in the National Assembly. Liberal Party (Armenia)
The Liberal Party ( hy, Ազատական կուսակցություն, translit=Azatakan kusakts’ut’yun) is an Armenian political party. It was founded on 1 March 2021 and is currently led by Samvel Babayan, former defense minister of the Republic of Artsakh and leader of the United Motherland party in Artsakh. History The Liberal Party was founded in March 2021 and subsequently announced its intentions to participate in the 2021 Armenian parliamentary election. The party won 1.17% of the popular vote in the election, failing to win any seats in the National Assembly. The party accepted the results of the election and congratulated Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his reelection. Currently, the party acts as an extra-parliamentary force. Civil Contract (Armenia)
Civil Contract ( hy, Քաղաքացիական պայմանագիր, , ՔՊ, KP, often shortened to Քաղպայմանագիր, ''K'aghpaymanagir'') is a centrist political party in Armenia. It was established on 24 July 2013 as a non-governmental organization. Its governing board was formed on 9 December 2013. On 30 May 2015, it was registered as a political party. Civil Contract participated in the 2017 Armenian parliamentary election and the 2017 Yerevan City Council election as part of the Way Out Alliance (''Yelk''). Following the 2018 Armenian Velvet Revolution led by Nikol Pashinyan, a new political alliance rose to prominence known as the My Step Alliance. Centrism
Centrism is a political outlook or position involving acceptance or support of a balance of social equality and a degree of social hierarchy while opposing political changes that would result in a significant shift of society strongly to the left or the right. Both centre-left and centre-right politics involve a general association with centrism that is combined with leaning somewhat to their respective sides of the left–right political spectrum. Various political ideologies, such as Christian democracy, Pancasila, and certain forms of liberalism like social liberalism, can be classified as centrist, as can the Third Way, a modern political movement that attempts to reconcile right-wing and left-wing politics by advocating for a synthesis of centre-right economic platforms with centre-left social policies. 2021 Armenian Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on 20 June 2021. The elections had initially been scheduled for 9 December 2023, but were called earlier due to a political crisis following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War and an alleged attempted coup in February 2021. Nikol Pashinyan, who had served as Prime Minister since 2018, resigned in April 2021 and subsequently the seventh National Assembly was dissolved on 10 May. Pashinyan continued to serve as acting prime minister until the elections were held. Following the election, Pashinyan's Civil Contract party received 54% of the vote and won 71 seats, a majority in the 107-seat parliament. The opposition Armenia Alliance, finished second with 29 seats, while the I Have Honor Alliance won 7 seats. No other party or alliance surpassed the electoral threshold required to win a seat. Institute Of Liberal Politics
The Institute of Liberal Politics (ILP) ( hy, Լիբերալ քաղաքականության ինստիտուտ, translit=Liberal k’aghak’akanut’yan institut), also known as the School of Liberal Politics is a non-governmental educational and research institute in Armenia. The ILP was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Yerevan. History The Institute of Liberal Politics was founded on 27 September 2017 as an NGO by Bright Armenia, an Armenian political party. The opening ceremony was attended by Nikol Pashinyan, political scientist Ara Papian, and former EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Świtalski. The ILP is a full member of the European Liberal Forum. European Liberal Forum
The European Liberal Forum, abbreviated to ELF, is a political foundation at the European level affiliated to the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party. Founded in 2007, ELF brings together liberal think thanks, political foundations, and institutes from around Europe to observe, analyze, and contribute to the debate on European public policy issues and the process of European integration, through research, training, and the promotion of active citizenship within the EU. Compared to other political foundations in Europe, the European Liberal Forum's independent status is much more pronounced. Classical liberalism is a political tradition and a branch of liberalism that advocates free market and laissez-faire economics; civil liberties under the rule of law with especial emphasis on individual autonomy, limited government, economic freedom, political freedom and freedom of speech.
