Liberal Union Of Lithuania
The Liberal Union of Lithuania () was a liberal political party in Lithuania. History The party was founded on the 25th of November, 1990 on a basis of the Vilnius University Liberal Club. Its first leader was Vilnius University philosophy professor Vytautas Radžvilas. In 1992 parliamentary election, the Liberal Union got 1.51 percent of votes and failed to win any seats. In January 1993 the party congress agreed upon declaration, which stated that the party would right-wing one. In 1994 the party's membership grew. Most of these new members were either former politicians (e. g. former Moderates Movement's leader Eugenijus Gentvilas) or employees of company EBSW. In 1995 municipal election, the party got 2.69 percent of the votes nationally and 40 councillors. Most of these gains were city districts (e. g. Birštonas, Marijampolė, Klaipėda). 1996 Lithuanian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Lithuania in two stages on 20 October and 10 November 1996.Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p1201 All 141 seats in the Seimas were up for election; 70 based on proportional party lists and 71 in single member constituencies. Where no candidate gained more than 50% of the vote on 20 October, a run-off was held on 10 November. The first round of the elections was held concurrently with a referendum to amend Articles 55, 57 and 131 of the constitution, and a referendum on the use of proceeds from privatization. The second round was held concurrently with a referendum to amend Article 47 of the constitution. Due to a low turnout, none of the referendum questions succeeded in getting approval from at least 50% of registered voters. Artūras Zuokas
Artūras Zuokas (born 21 February 1968) is a Lithuanian politician. He is the Chairman of the political party Lithuanian Freedom Union (Liberals), Lithuanian Freedom Union. He was the Mayor of Vilnius from 2000 to 2007 and again from 2011 to 2015. From 2008 to 2009 he was a member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament). Zuokas graduated from the Jonava Jeronimas Ralys Gymnasium, first secondary school in Jonava. He then worked as an independent reporter for Independent Television News as a war reporter in Iraq, where he taped the bombing of the International Saddam Tower, Baghdad TV Tower during the First Gulf War. Dalia Kutraitė-Giedraitienė (born 18 April 1952) is a Lithuanian journalist, PR specialist and politician. She studied at the Salomėja-Neris Secondary School in Kaunas, and graduated from Vilnius University in 1975 in journalism. From 1975 to 1988 she was an editor for Lithuanian National Radio and Television. From 1998 to 1999 she was a consultant of the mayor of Vilnius, Rolandas Paksas, and subsequently was given a position in the city government of Vilnius. The Lithuanian Centre Union, or Centre Union of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos centro sąjunga, LCS), was a liberalism, liberal list of political parties in Lithuania, political party in Lithuania that existed between 1993 and 2003. The Second Paksas Cabinet was the 11th cabinet of Lithuania since 1990. It consisted of the Prime Minister and 13 government ministers (Ministry of Government Reforms and Municipalities was merged into the Ministry of the Interior at the start of the term). History Rolandas Paksas, the leader of the Liberal Union of Lithuania, was appointed the Prime Minister by President Valdas Adamkus on 27 October 2000, after the elections earlier in October.
