Liberal Party Of Australia (Queensland Division)
The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. It was initially formed in October 1943 as the Queensland People's Party (QPP), which then absorbed the disbanded Queensland branch of the United Australia Party in 1944. In 1945, the QPP had an agreement with the newly formed Liberal Party, where in the "federal sphere", QPP would be the Queensland division of the Liberal Party and would run its candidates under the Liberal Party banner in federal elections. However, in the "state sphere", it would continue to exist individually under its own banner. In July 1949, the QPP was renamed to reflect its status as the Queensland division of the Liberal Party. United Australia Party – Queensland
The United Australia Party was the short-lived Queensland branch of the national United Australia Party in the 1930s and 1940s. Based around Brisbane, it spent the entire of its history in opposition, merging in 1941 into the Country-National Organisation. When that party separated in 1944, the remnants of the UAP joined the Queensland People's Party which in 1949 became the Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division) History Although the federal UAP was formed in 1931 amidst a reorganisation of the right of politics, at the state level the main conservative party remained the Country and Progressive National Party which combined urban and rural forces. Electoral District Of Lockyer
Lockyer is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The district consists primarily of Gatton and Laidley Shires and northern parts of Beaudesert Shire. It includes the major town of Gatton and a number of smaller centres including Laidley, Helidon and Withcott. The eastern parts of the district are part of the outer southern suburbs of Ipswich and Brisbane in the area of Greenmount. The district is bounded on the west by Toowoomba North, and Toowoomba South. On the southwest and south by Condamine, Southern Downs and Beaudesert. To the north and northwest by Nanango. To the northeast, where it passes south of Ipswich and Brisbane, it is bounded by Ipswich West, Ipswich, Moggill. To the east it shares a boundary with the seat of Logan. Electoral District Of East Toowoomba
Electoral District of East Toowoomba was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in 1912 when the old seat of Drayton & Toowoomba split into East Toowoomba, Toowoomba and Drayton. East Toowoomba ceased to exist in 1950. In the 1960 redistribution, a seat of Toowoomba East (along with Toowoomba West) was created that lasted until 1972. When East Toowoomba was lost to redistribution, Sir Gordon Chalk contested the seat of Lockyer successfully. Sir Kenneth James Morris, (22 October 1903 – 1 June 1978) was an Australian politician who served as Deputy Premier of Queensland from 1957 to 1962. Early life Born in Brisbane, he was educated at Brisbane Grammar School before becoming the director of his family's boot manufacturing firm. In 1931, he married Ettie Louise Dunlop. Morris served in the military 1939–1944, in Britain (1940), Tobruk (1941) and Egypt (1942); rising to the rank of Major. Political career A founding member of the Liberal Party in Queensland, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in 1944 as the member for Enoggera, transferring to Mount Coot-tha in 1950. Sir Thomas Alfred Hiley, (25 November 1905 – 6 November 1990) was Treasurer of the Australian state of Queensland from 1957 to 1965. Early life Hiley was born in Brisbane, Queensland, the son of William and Maria Hiley (''nee'' Savage). He was educated at Central Brisbane Primary School, Brisbane Grammar School and the University of Queensland. Hiley worked as a Chartered Accountant. Political career Hiley entered the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as member for Logan on 15 April 1944, a seat he held until switching to the new seat of Coorparoo on 29 April 1950. When Coorparoo was abolished on 28 May 1960, Hiley represented the new district of Chatsworth until retiring on 28 May 1966. Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 3 May 1947 to elect the 62 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first that the Labor government had contested under Premier Ned Hanlon, who had been in office for 14 months by the time of the poll. The election resulted in Labor receiving a sixth term in office. It was the first Queensland election at which all seats were contested by at least two candidates. Arthur Bruce Pie (18 May 1902 – 30 July 1962) was an Australian politician who served in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. Early life The son of Arthur Savoi Garibaldi Pie, and Annie Gertrude Pie, née Miller, Arthur Bruce Pie was born in Coburg, Victoria on 18 May 1902. He married Jean Margaret Wright at Clayfield, Brisbane, Queensland on 24 June 1925. Education He attended Caulfield Grammar School 1916–1917, and played for the school's First XVIII. Football Caulfield Grammarians (MAFA) He played with the Caulfield Grammarians Football Club, and was its coach on 1926.
