''Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, from Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning'' is a book by Jonah Goldberg, a syndicated columnist and an editor of the online opinion and news publication ''The Dispatch.'' In contrast to the mainstream view among historians and political scientists that fascism is a far-right ideology, Goldberg argues in the book that fascist movements were and are left-wing. Published in January 2008, it reached number one on ''The New York Times'' Best Seller list of hardcover non-fiction in its seventh week on the list. Origin of title Goldberg has said in interviews that the title ''Liberal Fascism'' was taken from a 1932 speech by science fiction pioneer H. G. Wells at Oxford.. Jonah Jacob Goldberg (born March 21, 1969) is an American conservative syndicated columnist, author, political analyst, and commentator. The founding editor of ''National Review Online'', from 1998 until 2019 he was an editor at ''National Review''. Goldberg writes a weekly column about politics and culture for the ''Los Angeles Times''. In October 2019, Goldberg became founding editor of the online opinion and news publication ''The Dispatch.'' Michael Ledeen
Michael Arthur Ledeen (; born August 1, 1941) is an American historian, and neoconservative foreign policy analyst. He is a former consultant to the United States National Security Council, the United States Department of State, and the United States Department of Defense. He held the Freedom Scholar chair at the American Enterprise Institute where he was a scholar for twenty years and now holds the similarly named chair at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. He was very close to Antonio Martino. Academic career Ledeen holds a Ph.D. in History and Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin–Madison where he studied under the historian George Mosse. Michael Kevin Pollan (; born February 6, 1955) is an American author and journalist, who is currently Professor of the Practice Non-Fiction and the first Lewis K. Chan Arts Lecturer at Harvard University.
