Twillingate
Twillingate is a town of 2,121 people located on the Twillingate Islands ("Toulinquet") in Notre Dame Bay, off the north eastern shore of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The town is about north of Lewisporte and Gander. Incorporated on September 30, 1965, the town of Twillingate includes such localities as Back Harbour, Bayview, Durrell, Gillard's Cove, Jenkins Cove, Manuel's Cove, and Wild Cove. The Twillingate Islands provide an excellent sheltered harbour and easy access to the rich fishing grounds nearby. Twillingate Island is connected to mainland Newfoundland via the Walter B. Elliott causeway as part of Route 340. The town is also one of the oldest ports on the island. Derrick Dalley
Derrick Dalley , (born July 22, 1965) is a former Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He served as the Minister of Natural Resources in the provincial cabinet. Dalley has represented the district of The Isles of Notre Dame in the House of Assembly from 2007 until 2015. Before entering politics he worked as a guidance counselor and principal. Early life Dalley was born in Twillingate, Notre Dame Bay. He spent his early years in Springdale before returning to Twillingate, where he completed high school. Dalley went on to attend Memorial University of Newfoundland where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in political science, and a Bachelor of Education degree in 1987. In 1992, he completed a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of New Brunswick. Crow Head is a small town located on the north island of Twillingate in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is home to the Long Point Lighthouse and Twillingate Dinner Theatre. 2015 Newfoundland And Labrador General Election
The 2015 Newfoundland and Labrador general election, held on November 30, 2015, elected members of the 48th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party which had governed since 2003 election, was defeated by the Liberal Party, which won a majority in the new assembly. The election had been scheduled for October 13, 2015, under Newfoundland and Labrador's House of Assembly Act, mandating a fixed election day on the second Tuesday in October in the fourth calendar year after the previous election. However, the House of Assembly amended the act in June 2015, to delay the election until November 30, 2015, so that the election campaign would not overlap with the federal election scheduled on October 19, 2015. Baytona
Baytona is a small rural community found in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is situated off of Route 340, which runs from Lewisporte to Twillingate island, aptly named "Road to the Isles". A bay separates Baytona from a neighboring town called Birchy Bay. The first settlers of Baytona were fishermen, with women mainly staying home to raise children; however, with a depletion in cod stocks and lobsters, there was a shift away from the fishing industry. Baytona has a fire department, town council and a recreation committee. There is currently one running convenience store. The community has a playground, and a basketball court. The town also has an Anglican and a Pentecostal church.
