Levon (song)
"Levon" is a song written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. It was recorded on 27 February 1971, and was released on John's 1971 album, ''Madman Across the Water''. Backing vocals are provided by Tony Burrows. Paul Buckmaster wrote the orchestral arrangements and directed the orchestra. The song reached number 24 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and peaked at number six on the Canadian ''RPM'' singles chart. History According to Gus Dudgeon, Taupin was inspired by the Band's co-founder, drummer and singer Levon Helm to name the song after him. The Band was apparently John and Taupin's favourite group at the time. In 2013, however, Taupin said that the song is unrelated to Helm. According to fellow Band member, Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm didn't like the song, quoting him as saying "Englishmen shouldn't fuck with Americanisms". Love For Levon
Love for Levon: Benefit To Save The Barn was a benefit concert held on October 3, 2012 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The concert was a tribute to the life of The Band's co-lead vocalist and drummer Levon Helm, who died of throat cancer on April 19, 2012. The concert featured a wide variety of musicians who had worked with Helm as well as musicians who were influenced by him. Proceeds from the concert went towards keeping Helm's Woodstock barn in his family's control as well as continuing his Midnight Ramble concert series in the barn. The concert's musical directors were Don Was and Helm's frequent collaborator Larry Campbell. The concert was released on CD and DVD on March 19, 2013. Levon (band)
Levon is a country trio from Nashville, Tennessee, signed to Columbia Nashville / Epic Records. The trio is made up of Northbrook, Illinois, native Michael David Hall (on guitar and lead vocals); Sumter, South Carolina’s Jake Singleton (on harmonies, bass, and percussion); and Camden, Tennessee, native Ryan Holladay (on guitar, mandolin and harmonies). Origin Jake Singleton met Michael David Hall at a restaurant where Hall was working as a server. They began performing together and then added Ryan Holladay as well. They eventually chose to name themselves Levon after The Band's Levon Helm and the Elton John song " Levon." Their debut EP, ''Levon EP'', was released on May 12, 2017, "Ms. Marianne" is the lead single. In June, 2017, they were mentioned in the Tennessee Journal’s Top 5 Artists to watch at CMA fest.
