Levon Chaushian
Levon Alexandri Chaushian (also transliterated Chaushyan; hy, Լևոն Ալեքսանդրի Չաուշյան, russian: Левон Александрович Чаушян, 10 May 1946 – 17 February 2022) was a Soviet and Armenian composer. Life and career He was born in 1946 in Yerevan. In 1969 he graduated from the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, majoring in composition in the class of Edvard Mirzoyan. In 1970 he studied piano with Georgi Sarajev. In 1972 he graduated from the post-graduate studies. He participated in many music festivals and got numerous diplomas. Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan ( hy, Երևանի Կոմիտասի անվան պետական կոնսերվատորիա), also known as Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory (YKSC) or Yerevan State Conservatory (YSC), is a state-owned college of music located in Yerevan, Armenia. The institute was founded in 1921 as a music studio. In 1923, it was turned into a higher musical education institution. It is named after Komitas, the founder of the Armenian national school of music. Edvard Mirzoyan
Edvard Mik'aeli Mirzoyan ( hy, Էդվարդ Միքայելի Միրզոյան; May 12, 1921 – October 5, 2012) was an Armenian composer. Edvard Mirzoyan was born in Gori, Georgia. He called himself an atheist, but added, "There is only one planet on which people live and are being born. And while it is, it's a miracle. A miracle, every leaf and every bug.... And it all depends on how you are able to enjoy this miracle. Some do not even think that they were born into a miracle." He is considered one member of the group called " Armenia's Mighty Handful", a reference to the 19th century collective known as the " Mighty Handful." Komitas State Conservatory Of Yerevan Alumni
Soghomon Soghomonian, ordained and commonly known as Komitas, ( hy, Կոմիտաս; 22 October 1935) was an Armenian priest, musicologist, composer, arranger, singer, and choirmaster, who is considered the founder of the Armenian national school of music. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of ethnomusicology. Orphaned at a young age, Komitas was taken to Etchmiadzin, Armenia's religious center, where he received education at the Gevorgian Seminary. Following his ordination as vardapet (celibate priest) in 1895, he studied music at the Frederick William University in Berlin. He thereafter "used his Western training to build a national tradition". He collected and transcribed over 3,000 pieces of Armenian folk music, more than half of which were subsequently lost and only around 1,200 are now extant.
