Levanger Station ( no, Levanger stasjon) is a railway station located in the centre of the town of Levanger in the municipality of Levanger in Trøndelag county, Norway. The station is located along the Nordland Line. The station serves both local and express trains northbound through Innherred and to Nordland, and southbound to Trondheim. The Trøndelag Commuter Rail, which runs between Steinkjer and Trondheim, stops at Levanger, and operates at a one-hour intervals. History The station was opened on 29 October 1902 on the Hell–Sunnan Line as the section to Levanger was finished. There was at the time of construction a controversy as to whether the station should be in the western or eastern part of town. Levanger (town)
Levanger is a university town and the administrative center of Levanger Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The town is located along the eastern shore of the Trondheimsfjorden, at the mouth of the river Levangselva. The town is located about half-way between the towns of Steinkjer and Stjørdalshalsen. Prior to 1962, the town of Levanger and its immediate vicinity was its own municipality. The town houses a campus of the Nord University. Hell–Sunnan Line
The Hell–Sunnan Line ( no, Hell–Sunnanbanen) is a railway line between Hell, Stjørdal and Sunnan, Steinkjer in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway. The name is no longer in official use and the line is now considered part of the Nordland Line. The Hell–Sunnan Line branches from the Meråker Line at Hell and runs on the east shore of the Trondheimsfjord passing through the municipalities of Stjørdal, Levanger, Verdal, Inderøy and Steinkjer. The Norwegian State Railways (NSB) started construction in 1899 and the first part of the line, from Hell to Stjørdalshalsen, opened on 1 February 1902. The railway opened to Levanger on 29 October 1902, to Verdalsøra on 1 November 1904 and to Sunnan on 15 November 1905. Steinkjer Station ( no, Steinkjer stasjon) is a railway station located in the town of Steinkjer in the municipality of Steinkjer in Trøndelag county, Norway. Norsk Spisevognselskap A/S, often abbreviated NSS or shortened to Spisevognselskapet (Norwegian for "The Dining Car Company"), was a Norwegian state enterprise which operated restaurant carriages on Norwegian trains and restaurants at railway stations and railway hotels. The company was established in December 1918, and started a catering service in 1919. Originally owned by the Norwegian Trunk Railway, it was acquired by the state in 1926. Meals served in the restaurant carriages were relatively expensive, although they were available to all passengers. In the 1950s, the company began using serving trolleys on trains. In January 1975, NSS merged with the convenience-store chain Narvesen Kioskkompani into a new company called Narvesen–Spisevognselskapet.
