Leung Che-cheung
Leung Che-cheung, SBS, MH, JP () (born 3 December 1957 in Hong Kong) is a former member of Hong Kong Legislative Council (Geographical constituency New Territories West) and the former Chairman of the Yuen Long District Council for Tin Yiu in Tin Shui Wai. He is a member of Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, a pro-Beijing party in Hong Kong and the president of the New Territories Association of Societies. He was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2017. Background In 1998, Leung began serving as vice chairman of Yuen Long District Council, and was elected as chairman in 2008. In 2011, he joined the Election Committee for Regional District Council. Election Committee
The Election Committee is a Hong Kong electoral college, the function of which is to select the Chief Executive (CE) and, since 2021, to elect 40 of the 90 members of the Legislative Council. Established by Annex I of the Basic Law of Hong Kong which states that "the Chief Executive shall be elected by a broadly representative Election Committee in accordance with this Law and appointed by the Central People's Government (State Council)." It is formed and performs its selection function once every five years, even in the event of a CE not completing their term. The membership of the Election Committee was expanded to 1,500 under the massive overhaul of the electoral system in 2021. Kenneth Leung Kai-cheong (; born 17 October 1962) is a democratic Hong Kong politician formerly serving as a member of the Legislative Council for the Accountancy functional constituency. Professionally, he is a tax adviser and accountant. On 11 November 2020, he was disqualified from the Legislative Council, along with three other lawmakers of the pan-democratic camp, by the central government in Beijing on request of the Hong Kong government. A mass resignation of pan-democrats the same day left the Legislative Council without a substantial opposition. Education and background Leung was born in Hong Kong and attended Queen's College.
