Leopoldo Ortiz Climent
Leopoldo Ortiz Climent (Catadau, Spain, 1941) is a Spanish engineer and politician who belongs to the People's Party (Spain), People's Party (PP). Married with three children, he qualified as an engineer and worked in the agriculture section of the Spanish Embassy in London from 1972 to 1976. He later entered politics as a member of the regional party Valencian Union (Unió Valenciana / UV) and headed the party list at the 1987 European elections in Spain but failed to be elected. He subsequently joined the PP and in 1989 was elected to the European Parliament as a PP MEP, part of the European People's Party. He resigned his seat in 1993 after being elected to the Congress of Deputies (Spain), Spanish Congress of Deputies representing Valencia (Spanish Congress Electoral District), Valencia Province. People's Party (Spain)
The People's Party ( es, Partido Popular ; known mostly by its acronym, PP ) is a conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Spain. The People's Party was a 1989 re-foundation of People's Alliance (AP), a party led by former minister of the dictatorship Manuel Fraga and founded back in 1976 as alliance of post-Francoist proto-parties. The new party combined the conservative AP with several small Christian democratic and liberal parties (the party call this fusion of views "the Reformist Centre"). The European People's Party (EPP) is a European political party with Christian-democratic, conservative, and liberal-conservative member parties. A transnational organisation, it is composed of other political parties. The Congress of Deputies ( es, link=no, Congreso de los Diputados, italic=unset) is the lower house of the Cortes Generales, Spain's legislative branch. The Congress meets in the Palace of the Parliament () in Madrid. It has 350 members elected by constituencies (matching fifty Spanish provinces and two autonomous cities) by closed list proportional representation using the D'Hondt method. Valencia ( ca-valencia, València) is one of the 52 constituencies ( es, circunscripciones) represented in the Congress of Deputies, the lower chamber of the Spanish parliament, the Cortes Generales. The constituency currently elects 16 deputies. Its boundaries correspond to those of the Spanish province of Valencia. The electoral system uses the D'Hondt method and a closed-list proportional representation, with a minimum threshold of three percent.
