Leonard Raba
Leonard Raba (born 8 December 1954) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Poland. He earned 10 international caps for the Poland national speedway team. Career Raba started his speedway career with Kolejarz Opole during the 1973 Polish speedway season. He spent his entire Polish leagues career with the club and helped them win the 1. Liga in 1974. and 1980 He spent one unsuccessful season riding for Swindon Robins, with fellow Pole Jerzy Trzeszkowski in the British speedway leagues, during the 1978 British League season. In 1982, he finished runner-up to Andrzej Huszcza in the Polish Individual Speedway Championship. He ended his speedway career due to injuries (complicated leg fracture) after an accident with Bolesław Proch in 1985, during a league match against Polonia Bydgoszcz. 1978 British League Season
The 1978 Gulf British League season was the 44th season of the top tier of speedway in the United Kingdom and the 14th season known as the British League. Summary The list of nineteen teams that competed in the league was identical to the previous season. The league was sponsored by Gulf Oil for a fourth season. Coventry Bees won their second title and their first for ten years. Belle Vue Aces were runners-up for the fourth time in five seasons and would receive a double blow when losing in the final of the Knockout Cup. Two time world champion Ole Olsen was in sensational form for Coventry and made the difference throughout the season. Olsen would also seal his third world individual crown by the end of the season. Zenon Plech
Zenon Plech (1 January 1953 – 25 November 2020) was a Polish international motorcycle speedway rider. He finished third in the Speedway World Championship in 1973 and as the runner-up in 1979. Career summary Plech won the Polish National Championship five times (1972, 1975, 1979, 1985 and 1986) and runner-up twice (1981 and 1983). He also was a member of the Poland team to take third place in the World Team Cup in 1972 and 1981. Zenon Plech's third place in the 1973 World Final at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland was controversial. On the last lap of Heat 19, Soviet rider Grigory Khlinovsky had attempted to pass Plech for the lead going into the back straight. As he was passed by the Russian, Plech lost control of his bike and fell. Speedway career Kasprzak reached the final of the Speedway World Championship in the 1988 Individual Speedway World Championship. Roman Jankowski
Roman Jankowski (born 5 October 1957 in Kościan, Poland) is a speedway rider active from 1976 until 2006. He is a former Polish Champion, having won the title in 1981 and again in 1988. Roman has also represented Poland at the World Team Cup. He rode for the Hackney Hawks in 1980 and 1981. Currently he is the youth coach and manager of Unia Leszno. Roman's three sons, Łukasz, Marcin and Norbert are all speedway riders. Polonia Bydgoszcz is a Polish sports club based in Bydgoszcz most known for its speedway team ŻKS Polonia Bydgoszcz which currently races in the 1. Liga. The club has won the Polish Speedway League Championship seven times, the latest in 2002, and European Team Championship three times, the latest in 2001. The club also has a football team that plays in the lower leagues, though it was more successful in the past. Bolesław Proch
Bolesław Proch (4 February 1952 – 22 December 2012) was a Polish international motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 15 international caps for the Poland national speedway team. Early life and career Born in Świebodzin, Proch first rode for Falubaz in his home town of Zielona Góra in 1973, winning the Polish Junior Championship the following year and finishing fourth in the Silver Helmet tournament. In 1976 he rode in the British League for Reading Racers, averaging over five points per match. Andrzej Huszcza
Andrzej Huszcza (born 10 March 1957 in Krępa, Poland) is a Polish former international motorcycle speedway rider who was a reserve (did not ride) in the 1988 World Final in Vojens, Denmark. Huszcza rode for Falubaz Zielona Góra for thirty years from 1975 until 2005. He then spent two seasons with PSŻ Poznań before finally retiring aged fifty. Huszcza spent two seasons in the UK riding for the Hackney Hawks, Reading Racers and the Leicester Lions in the British League. In 2008, he returned to ZKŻ Zielona Góra as coach.
