Leo Rwabwogo
Leo Rwabwogo (3 June 1949 – 14 January 2009) was a Ugandan boxer, who won two Olympic medals during his career as an amateur in the flyweight division (up to 51 kg). He won a bronze medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City before winning a silver medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He also won a silver medal at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. Early life Rwabwogo was born in Tororo, a town in the Eastern Region of Uganda. He took up boxing and joined the Kilembe Mines Boxing Center in the west of the country. Career 1968 Olympics Rwabwogo had claimed the African flyweight title in the 1960s and was selected as part of the Ugandan boxing team for the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. Amateur Boxing
Amateur boxing is a variant of boxing practiced at the collegiate level, at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as many associations. Amateur boxing bouts are short in duration, comprising three rounds of three minutes in men, and four rounds of two minutes in women, each with a one-minute interval between rounds. Men's senior bouts changed in format from four two-minute rounds to three three-minute rounds on January 1, 2009. This type of competition prizes point-scoring blows, based on number of clean punches landed, rather than physical power. Also, this short format allows tournaments to feature several bouts over several days, unlike professional boxing, where fighters rest several months between bouts. David Vasquez
David Vasquez (born October 11, 1948) is an American former boxer. As an amateur in New York City, Vasquez won the New York Golden Gloves in three consecutive years from 1967 to 1969 and was the only champion to win at both the old Madison Square Garden and the new. He competed in the men's flyweight event at the 1968 Summer Olympics, which was won by Ricardo Delgado of Mexico. Vasquez would go on to defeat Delgado after they both turned professional. Vasquez fought in 35 matches during a professional career that lasted from 1969 to 1982 while also working in the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and attending Lehman College. Bolat Zhumadilov (Болат Жумадилов; born April 22, 1973) is a Kazakh boxer who competed in the Men's Flyweight (– 51 kg) at the 2000 Summer Olympics and won the silver medal. Douglas Rodríguez (boxer)
Douglas Rodríguez (June 3, 1950 – May 21, 2012 in Havana) was an amateur boxer from Cuba, who represented his native country in the Men's Flyweight (– 51 kg) category at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. There he won the bronze medal after being stopped in the semifinals by Uganda's eventual silver medalist Leo Rwabwogo. Rodríguez claimed the first ever world title in his weight division by defeating Venezuela's Alfredo Pérez in the final of the 1974 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Havana, Cuba Havana (; Spanish: ''La Habana'' ) is the capital and largest city of Cuba.
