Meda, Lombardy
Meda is a city and ''comune'' in the province of Monza and Brianza, located in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, close to Milan and Como. It is a center of furniture production. Meda is served by Meda railway station. History Meda's history is linked to the history of its convent and of its foundation. From the latter's location on a mound ( la, meta) stems the town's name. According to legend, the Saints Aimo and Vermund, counts of Turbigo, were attacked by two wild boars while hunting. To save their lives, they swore to God that, if saved, they would build a convent right there. The convent was built around 780 near an old little church dedicated to St. Vittore. In order to be free from the control of the new priorate, the people of Meda built another church dedicated to St. Mary and St. Sebastian. The Villa Valdettaro, also called Villa Viansson, is a 19th-century Baroque and Gothic Revival architecture rural palace located on Via Cavour #46 outside of the town of Lentate sul Seveso in the Province of Monza and Brianza, region of Lombardy, Italy. History Construction of the villa began in 1847 at a site that included the 16th-century chapel of ''Santi Cosma and Damiano''. Construction was commissioned by Bartolomeo Merelli, the successful impresario of the La Scala opera house in Milan. The architecture is eclectic, but mainly Gothic Revival. The layout is irregular and the facade of the main palace is at right angles to the entrance under a peaked arched balcony topped with statues. the complex includes a scenic tower. Oratory of Saint Stephen ( it, Oratorio di Santo Stefano is a Roman Catholic chapel in the town of Lentate sul Seveso, in the Province of Monza and Brianza and the region of Lombardy, Italy. History The plain Gothic-style brick two-story structure is located in the town center, next to the parish church of San Vito Martire. Construction took place in 1369, commissioned by Stefano Porro, an ambassador to the court of Bernabò and Galeazzo Visconti, who was made a palatine count by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1368. The outside appears dilapidated. The entrance to the single nave is through a stairwell dipping below the right of the façade, above is a mullioned window with an ogival window frame. Despite restoration in the 1930s and 1960s, the frescoes are threatened by humidity.
