Lenoir–Rhyne Bears
The Lenoir–Rhyne Bears are the athletic teams that represent Lenoir–Rhyne University, located in Hickory, North Carolina, in intercollegiate sports at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Bears have primarily competed in the South Atlantic Conference since the 1989–90 academic year. Lenoir–Rhyne competes in 23 intercollegiate varsity sports. Lenoir–Rhyne University
Lenoir–Rhyne University is a private Lutheran university in Hickory, North Carolina. Founded in 1891, the university is affiliated with the North Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Academics The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's and master's degrees. In the fall of 2018, LRU offered its first doctorate program, the Family Nurse Practitioner/Doctor of Nursing Practice (FNP/DNP). Oakland Athletics
The Oakland Athletics (often referred to as the A's) are an American professional baseball team based in Oakland, California. Oriol Cortes (born 28 June 1989) is a Spanish footballer. Career Cortes began paying college soccer at Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2009. After finishing two years with the Bears, Cortes moved back to Spain, playing with both CE Júpiter and UE Castelldefels. Eddie Holbrook
Eddie Holbrook is an American former college men's basketball head coach. He is best known for his tenure at Gardner–Webb University between 1964 and 1978. He was hired to coach Gardner-Webb when he was just 24-years old, and during his 14-year career there he compiled an overall record of 344 wins to just 67 losses. Holbrook was the coach when the team transitioned from a junior college program to an National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, NAIA school (beginning in 1969). In his first five years, Holbrook's teams won four conference titles, and two regional titles in 1968–'69 while earning an invitation to play in the National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas (a first for any GW team). He currently serves as the senior vice president of officiating administration for the National Football League's officiating department. Previously, he served as the defensive backs coach or defensive coordinator for eight NFL teams between 1998 and 2019. NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship
The NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship is the annual championship in men's lacrosse held by the NCAA for teams competing in Division II. Following the institution of a tournament for Division I in 1971 by the NCAA, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association added a "small college" tournament for two years for non-Division I schools. In 1972, Hobart defeated Washington College 15-12 to win the USILA title. And Cortland State beat Washington College to win the 1973 title, 13-8.
