Lennart Nyman
Lennart Nyman (25 June 1917 – 25 August 1998) was a Swedish football coach and sports administrator, best known for being the first ever manager of the Sweden national team between 1962 and 1965. He was also the chairman of multi-sport club Hammarby IF for 25 years, the longest-serving in its history. Athletic career Born in Stockholm, growing up at Södermalm, Nyman started to compete in different sports with local club Hammarby IF in his youth in the 1930s. He played bandy, football and ice hockey at junior and reserve level. Hammarby IF established a handball section in 1939. Nyman was part of their first senior squad, together with other famous athletes such as Holger Nurmela and Georg Skoglund, also the brother of renowned footballer Lennart Skoglund. Hans Nell
Hans "Hasse" Nell (born 27 May 1931) is a Swedish former footballer who played for Hammarby IF his whole senior career. Career Nell was born and grew up in Upplands Väsby and started to play football with local club Väsby IK as a youngster, before joining Stockholm-based Hammarby IF in 1950, at age 18. In his first seasons with the club, Nell established himself as a starting midfielder for Hammarby in Division 2, Sweden's second tier. Folke Adamsson
Folke Adamsson (1911–1977) was a Swedish football player and manager. He represented Hammarby IF during his whole playing career and later went on to coach the club for 18 years, as the longest-serving manager in its history. Club career He grew up in Fagersta and started to play youth football with local club Fagersta AIK. In 1931, at age 19, Adamsson moved to Hammarby IF in Stockholm. Between 1931 and 1943, Adamsson made 187 league appearances for Hammarby, mostly in the Swedish second tier. In 1940, Hammarby played one season in Allsvenskan, the domestic top league, but was relegated immediately. In 1943, Adamsson retired from playing due to a persistent knee injury. 1964 European Nations' Cup
The 1964 European Nations' Cup was the second edition of the UEFA European Championship. The final tournament was held in Spain. It was won by the hosts 2–1 over the defending champions, the Soviet Union. The tournament was a knockout competition; 29 teams entered (Greece withdrew after being drawn against Albania). The Soviet Union, Austria and Luxembourg received byes to the round of 16. The teams played home-and-away matches until the semi-finals; the final four teams would move on to the final tournament, whose host was selected after the teams became known. 1962 FIFA World Cup
The 1962 FIFA World Cup was the seventh edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football championship for senior men's national teams. It was held from 30 May to 17 June 1962 in Chile. The qualification rounds took place between August 1960 and December 1961, with 56 teams entering from six confederations, and fourteen qualifying for the finals tournament alongside Chile, the hosts, and Brazil, the defending champions. Brazil successfully defended their World Cup title, defeating Czechoslovakia 3–1 in the final in the Chilean capital of Santiago. Sweden National Football B Team
The Sweden national football B team was a secondary football team controlled by the Swedish Football Association. Sweden B played their first game against Norway on 29 September 1929, a game which ended in a 3–1 victory. Their last game was a 1–0 win against Poland on 21 May 1997. Åke Andersson (ice Hockey)
Åke Gustav "Plutten" Andersson (8 June 1918 – 11 May 1982) was a Swedish ice hockey, football and bandy player and manager, known for representing Hammarby IF in all three sports. He represented his country at two Winter Olympic games, finishing fourth in 1948 and winning a bronze medal in 1952. He was the captain of the Swedish national team from 1945 until his retirement in 1954. Early life Andersson grew up in a working-class home in a southern part of Stockholm known as Södermalm. His father was working as a groundskeeper at Hammarby Idrottsplats, the home of local club Hammarby IF which he joined at age 14. Athletic career Ice hockey In 1934, Andersson started to play hockey with Hammarby IF in Elitserien, Sweden's top tier. Söderstadion
Söderstadion ''(translated in English as Southern Stadium)'' was a football and bandy stadium in Stockholm, Sweden. It was opened in 1966 and closed in 2013, being replaced by nearby Tele2 Arena. Söderstadion had a capacity of 12,800 depending on usage. A record attendance of 22,000 was set on 31 October 1982, when Hammarby IF faced IFK Göteborg. There had already existed stadiums at the site, the earliest opened in 1918 under the name Johanneshovs Idrottsplats. After the stadium was closed, the site will now be used for new apartment buildings. Bandy was played at Söderstadion wintertime until 1989 and the Swedish championship final was traditionally played there. The Bandy World Championship 1987 final was played at the arena (2nd half of the video). The last bandy match at the stadium was the Swedish final of 1989.
