''Doctors'' is a British medical soap opera which began broadcasting on BBC One on 26 March 2000. Set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge, the soap follows the lives of the staff and patients of the Mill Health Centre, a fictional NHS doctor's surgery, as well as its sister surgery located at a nearby university campus. Doctors (2000 TV Series)
''Doctors'' is a British medical soap opera, first broadcast on BBC One on 26 March 2000. Set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge, the soap follows the lives of the staff of both an NHS doctor's surgery and a university campus surgery, as well as the lives of their families and friends. Initially, only 41 episodes of the programme were ordered, but due to the positive reception, the BBC ordered it as a continuing soap opera. ''Doctors'' was filmed at the Pebble Mill Studios until 2004; production then relocated to the BBC Drama Village. Episodes are filmed three months prior to transmission. The soap is typically broadcast on weekdays at 1:45 pm on BBC One and takes three annual transmission breaks across the year; at Easter, during the summer and at Christmas. Sarah Moyle (born 14 September 1969) is an English actress, known for her roles as Linda Fawcett in various stage productions of ''Jerusalem'' and Valerie Pitman in the BBC soap opera '' Doctors''. Moyle also portrayed the recurring role of Caroline Swann in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. For her role as Valerie in ''Doctors'', Moyle won the award for Best Comedic Performance at the 2019 British Soap Awards. Valerie was introduced as a temporary receptionist at the fictional Mill Health Centre on 15 October 2012. Dido Miles is an English actress. She is known for her role as Emma Reid on the BBC soap opera '' Doctors'', for which she has won two awards for at the RTS Midlands Awards. Lena Baker
Lena Baker (June 8, 1900 – March 5, 1945) was an African American maid in Cuthbert, Georgia, United States, who was wrongfully convicted of capital murder of a white man, Ernest Knight. She was executed by the state of Georgia in 1945. Baker was the only woman in Georgia to be executed by electrocution. The slaying and execution came during a decades-long period of state suppression of civil rights of black citizens in white-dominated Georgia. The state had disenfranchised black people since the turn of the century, and imposed legal racial segregation and second-class status on them. At the time of the trial, a local newspaper reported that Baker was held as a "slave woman" by Knight, and that she shot him in self-defense during a struggle. In 2005, sixty years after her execution, the state of Georgia granted Baker a full and unconditional pardon. Laura Rollins (born 20 December) is a British-Bajan actress, known for portraying the role of Ayesha Lee on the BBC soap opera '' Doctors'', a role which she played from September 2014 to June 2020. Ayesha Lee is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera '' Doctors'', portrayed by Laura Rollins.
