Leighton Hodges
Leighton Hodges (born 25 November 1975) is a Welsh rugby referee who mainly referees club rugby in such tournaments as the Pro14. He has refereed rugby sevens matches, making his debut in the 2008–09 IRB Sevens World Series at London and Edinburgh. Hodges refereed 4 matches at the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship in Italy -- Italy v New Zealand, England v Scotland, Argentina v Italy, and the third place game Australia v France He refereed his international rugby union debut in the 2012 end of year tests. The United Rugby Championship (URC) is an annual rugby union competition involving professional teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales. The current name was adopted in 2021 when the league expanded to include four South African teams previously from the SANZAR Super Rugby competition. The league is one of the three major professional leagues in Europe (along with the English Premiership and the French Top 14), the most successful teams from which go forward to compete in the European Rugby Champions Cup. Since 2022–23, despite the name, South African teams have been eligible to qualify for European competition, and one South African place is guaranteed. Penalty cards are used in many sports as a means of warning, reprimanding or penalising a player, coach or team official. The Ireland Wolfhounds (formerly Ireland A and Ireland B) are the second national rugby union team of Ireland, behind the Ireland national team. The 2012 IRB International Rugby Series was the first edition of a rugby union tournament, created by the International Rugby Board for tier two and tier three nations, played at Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay in Wales. The matches between Canada, Russia, Samoa, Tonga and the United States were played over two match days on 9 November and 17 November 2012.
