2012 International Rugby Series
The 2012 IRB International Rugby Series was the first edition of a rugby union tournament, created by the International Rugby Board for tier two and tier three nations, played at Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay in Wales. The matches between Canada, Russia, Samoa, Tonga and the United States were played over two match days on 9 November and 17 November 2012. The aim of the tournament was to increase the competitiveness between emerging rugby nations before the 2015 Rugby World Cup, to be held in England and Wales. Other unions involved in the 2012 International Rugby Series were Chile, Fiji, Georgia, Japan, Portugal, Romania and Uruguay. The tournament matches were in addition to those between tier one and tier two/three nations within the 2012-2019 international tours and test schedule which increased the opportunities for emerging rugby nations to play the world's best teams in June and November. Eirias Stadium
Eirias Stadium ( cy, Stadiwm Eirias), known for sponsorship reasons as Stadiwm CSM, is a multi-purpose stadium that is part of the outdoor complex of the Eirias Events Centre in Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay, Wales. It is home to the Principality Premiership team, RGC 1404 and RFL League 1 team North Wales Crusaders. The stadium had been used for sporting events, until its redevelopment in 2011, where it now can host international televised events. History In the early 1950s the Council developed a sports arena and running track on land which had been used for 350 allotments during the Second World War and 80,000 tonnes of soil were removed during construction. Although an athletics event was held in July 1954, it was not until June 1955 that the arena was officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant, Colonel J. C. Wynne Finch.
