Leicestershire Rugby Football Union
The Leicestershire Rugby Union (LRU) is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for those counties. The LRU administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in those two counties and administers the Leicestershire county rugby representative teams. History The Leicestershire Rugby Union was founded as the Leicestershire County Football Union in 1887 after a meeting of rugby clubs in Leicester and was affiliated to the RFU in 1890. The union was a sub-union of the Midland Counties Rugby Union until just after World War One when the Midland Counties union was dissolved, partly because players from Leicester had come to dominate the Midland Counties team. Leicestershire ( ; postal abbreviation Leics.) is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in the East Midlands, England. 2015 County Championship Shield
The 2015 County Championship Shield was the 11th version of the annual English rugby union County Championship, organized by the RFU for the tier 3 English counties. Each county drew its players from rugby union clubs from the fifth tier and below of the English rugby union league system. The counties were divided into three pools of four teams each, based roughly on regional lines, with the winner of each group plus the best runner-up going through to the semi-finals, with the winners of those games meeting in the final held at Twickenham Stadium. At the moment there is no promotion or relegation out of or into the County Championship Shield, although the 2014 champions Surrey moved up into tier 2, having won the competition three years in a row. Hinckley RFC
Hinckley Rugby Club is an English rugby union team based in Hinckley, Leicestershire. The club runs six senior sides, a ladies team and a full set of junior teams. The first XV currently play in National League 2 West, a fourth tier league in the English rugby union system. History Hinckley Rugby Club was formed in 1892 with the first matches being played the following year. As with many clubs, Hinckley moved regularly during the early years of the 20th-century before moving to Coventry Road in 1929 and to its current Leicester Road location just under forty years later. After a strong 1970s, the 1980s were unkind to Hinckley and when the league system was formed the club suffered three consecutive relegations. De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is a public university in the city of Leicester, England. It was established in accordance with the Further and Higher Education Act in 1992 as a degree awarding body. Coalville is an industrial town in the district of North West Leicestershire, Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England, with a population at the 2011 census of 34,575. Birstall Rugby Football Club is a men's senior rugby union club based in Birstall, Leicestershire. The club currently plays in the RFU Midlands leagues, currently participating in Midlands Counties 1 East (North) following promotion from Midlands 3 East (North) at the end of the 2021-22 season. Birstall won the RFU Junior Vase (midlands) competition in 2020 with the final being the last game before rugby was halted for the Covid-19 pandemic.
