Legislative District Of Marinduque
The legislative districts of Marinduque are the representations of the province of Marinduque in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The province is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its lone congressional district. History Marinduque initially elected two representatives to the Malolos Congress in 1898; this remained so until 1899. It was later annexed to Tayabas as its sub-province in 1902 and was represented as part of the second district of Tayabas beginning in 1907. Upon Marinduque's establishment as a regular province on February 21, 1920 through Act No. 2880, Marinduque was regranted its separate representation, and elected one representative this time in 1922. When seats for the upper house of the Philippine Legislature were elected from territory-based districts between 1916 and 1935, Tayabas and Marinduque formed part of the fifth senatorial district which elected two out of the 24-member senate. ... Provinces Of The Philippines
In the Philippines, provinces ( fil, lalawigan) are one of its primary political and administrative divisions. There are 82 provinces at present, which are further subdivided into component cities and municipalities. The local government units in the National Capital Region, as well as independent cities, are independent of any provincial government. Each province is governed by an elected legislature called the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and an elected governor. The provinces are grouped into seventeen regions based on geographical, cultural, and ethnological characteristics. 1984 Philippine Parliamentary Election
A parliamentary election was held on May 14, 1984 in the Philippines. Like past elections, charges of bribery, protests and complaints on irregularities marred the elections. Former ''Manila Times'' publisher Chino Roces and former senator and opposition leader Jose W. Diokno supported the campaign boycotting the election. The National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) helped mitigate electoral fraud during the election. The ruling Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) retained a majority in parliament, but the opposition United Nationalist Democratic Organization (UNIDO) made massive gains, winning 60 seats and reducing the KBL's majority to 114 compared to the 150 they had in 1978. This was the first Philippine election to happen after the end of the controversial martial law period from 1972 to 1981.
