Leen Quist
Leen Quist ( Sint Philipsland, September 4, 1942 – Veere, April 11, 2014) was a Dutch ceramist, who was known for his own style, a perfect finish and geometric (blue) lines. According to Thimo te Duits, author of ''Modern Ceramics in the Netherlands'' (1990), Quist' pots, bowls and boxes witnesses "a noble simplicity." Life and work Quist was educated as a handicrafts teacher at the Roman Catholic Society for Handicraft in Breda from 1967 to 1972. In the summers of 1977 and 1978, he was a trainee at the Danish ceramicist Clara Andersen (1944) in Aarhus, Denmark After his graduation, Quist was appointed teacher of applied art and art history at the Gymnasium Middelburg, and started a studio in the Pijpenstraat in Middelburg. In 1977 he had his main exhibition in Gallery The Chapel House in Amersfoort, and his last was a duo exhibition with Geert Lap on minimalistic ceramics at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, The Hague in 2013. Keramiekmuseum Princessehof
The Princessehof Ceramics Museum (in Dutch: Keramiekmuseum Princessehof) is a museum of ceramics in the city of Leeuwarden in the Netherlands. The museum's name comes from one of two buildings in which it is housed: a small palace ( means ‘royal court’) built in 1693 and later occupied by Marie Louise, dowager Princess of Orange. The other annexed building is the Papinga stins, a former stronghold from the 15th century. The museum buildings are of interest, and so are its collection of tiles, pottery, and ceramic sculpture. History of the building In 1731, the building was purchased by Marie Louise (known in Leeuwarden as ''Marijke Meu'', 'Aunt Mary'), who had been a widow since 1711 and acted as regent for her son William IV up to that year, when he came of age. She moved in and began a collection of ceramics, and her collection forms part of the museum's collection, most notably in the Nassaukamer, a period dining room in Baroque style. Duits, Thimo Te
Thimo te Duits (born 1962 in Utrecht) is a Dutch art historian, curator, author and editor, known for his numerous contributions in the field of Dutch applied art. Biography Early career in the 1980s and 1990s After his studies in art history, Te Duits started his career as freelance curator for the Haags Gemeentemuseum, now Kunstmuseum Den Haag. In 1986, he curated and wrote the catalog on an exhibition about glass art from abroad. In 1990 a widespread exhibition took place of modern ceramics in the Netherlands with over 70 ceramists in 21 places, among others in the museums of Delft, The Hague and Rotterdam. Te Duits wrote the catalog for this exhibition. In 1991 Te Duits curated an exhibition on Leen Quist in the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen. The same year Te Duits got associated with the Leerdam Glasmuseum, now Nationaal Glasmuseum, where he wrote an exhibition catalog on pressed glass from Leerdam. Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center
The Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center (WVMCC) is a museum in Wenatchee, Washington, that houses local and regional history, Native American heritage, and the propeller used in the first trans-Pacific flight. Founded in 1939 by the Columbia River Archaeological Society, the museum, housed in two historic buildings, contains three floors of displays interpreting life along the Columbia River in Eastern Washington. WVMCC hosts a variety of special events and family programs throughout the year. The Rijksmuseum () is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history and is located in Amsterdam. Sint Philipsland (village)
Sint Philipsland is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Sint Philpsland is also the name of the (former) island on which the village lies. It is a part of the municipality of Tholen, and lies about 16 km northwest of Bergen op Zoom. History The village was first mentioned between 1490 and 1495 as "Ecclesia sti Philippi Apostoli, St. Philipskerc", and is named after Philip the Apostle. The area was '' diked'' in 1487 by order of Anna van Bourgondië, the illegitimate daughter of Philip the Good. The first village was flooded in 1509 and 1530, and subsequently abandoned. In 1642, the land was reclaimed again and a regular patterned village with front and back street was constructed. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1668 in a neoclassic style with Doric columns. The Kunstpalast, formerly Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf is an art museum in Düsseldorf. History The roots of the museum go back around 300 years. In 1932, the collection of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Academy of Art) was housed in the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf. This included the exhibits given by the popular regent Jan Wellem, Duke of Palatinate, and his wife Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, and some rich citizens of Düsseldorf. The academy had been founded in 1710, its collection expanded in the 19th century by the collection of Lambert Krahe. The Düsseldorfer Gallerieverein, founded in the 19th century, collected many drawings of the Düsseldorfer Malerschule, later given to that collection. The Museum for Advanced Arts, whose opening was in 1883, merged with that museum later. The Kunstmuseum in its actual form opened in 1913.
